I stopped by a local dealer here in Oakville and I know what I want... but I want to see if I can get a bit better price (plus the guy at this shop is a dickhead)

So I know you guys all Recommend I think his name is Richard at Brullen.

Where exactly is the Brullen plant again? And who knows when the best times to catch Richard would be??

I'm thinking of getting this Double tipped set-up like this pic

Not the straight thru

I want to get a better sound than my stock, but not have anything that is gonna annoy me on the highway on long drives!!

What do you guys think?
And is it really gonna be beneficial for my 1ZZ-FE to go full cat-back?? I'm afraid of losing too much bottom end!

I read somewhere that you are better off not going cat back on the 1ZZ-FE. It has something to do with maintaining back pressure before the muffler. This is probably why the TRD kit for the Corolla is just a muffler, but they make cat-back systems for other models.

That was my thought on it as well!
And TRD claims a 4-5HP gain with the bolt on TRD sport muffler... probably an inflated estimate

The whole issue of "backpressure" is such a debatable topic as well....
In theory a free flowing exhaust will free up horsepower, but will do sh** for torque.
From what I've read and learned it has to do with the "pulsing" of the entire system
You need a proper amount of backpressure to create the proper "pulse" of the system which should help increase torque and HP...

I know that there isn't going to be huge gains from just bolting on a muffler... but I really just want a deeper sound (and better looks) without losing too much bottom end

Just buy the TRD. It isn't too loud on the highway, but when you 'drop the hammer', it sounds incredible! Too bad it's way overpriced.

The Brullen that Paul has sounds wicked, but I bet it's pretty loud on the highway. It's definately louder than Matt's, and Matt was complaining about droning.

That's the thing!!! the TRD is more than WAY overpriced!!!!!!!! It's a f***in joke!
there is no way I'm paying almost $700 for a "bolt-on" muffler!!!

I'm sure as long as I don't go with a staright-thru design, it won't be too bad on the highway, as far as "droning"

I can't wait to hear it! Will you have it before the Canadian AutoTech meet?

On another topic, is there something weird going on with the CC board? It comes up, but it says I'm not logged in, and it won't let me log in, either. It just keeps going back to the main index page no matter what I click on. ARGH!

Why not just post here? I mean heck, this is about toyotas, so why not use one board to make it easier on enthusiasts to be able to just view one board and not several different ones.

As for a straight through muffler... yeah they can be bi*ches, I got one... they told me it wouldnt be too loud.. oh sure. "TOO" is the key modifier in this phrase. I guess I'll stick a cat converter or something else still between.. ugh...

I was thinking the same thing. We could have sortof a 'sub-club' within ToyotaNation, like TT-CC, but we can just use this board to post. Of course, the off-topic moderation will have to be somewhat porn-friendly.

I love using this board....

but I really want the CC club to have it's own board as well...
It's a smaller group and keeps us better in touch with each other.
It also helps us keep our own "identity"

But I always promote this board as well!!

and I will always post here too!!
The technical knowledge on this board is the best around!!
