so i am looking for a decent midsize car for about 4000. why should i buy a camry? what are there common issues? i would be getting the 4cyl. any help is appreciated

4 cylinder camrys are very dependable. I would suggest getting a Lexus ES300 or something similar in the Lexus family if you can find one. I think you would be pleasantly surprised at the quality of the car. They have less squeaks, and cricks than the camry base model, and they have more options on the interior. So my suggestion is to find a Lexus. If you cannot find a lexus, get a camry. Camrys are good cars, they just dont have the luxury items that the lexus has

Well accords are reliable too but the downfall is they have an interference engine which means if the timing belt breaks the pistons do not have room to pass open valves and will bend the valves costing you a lot of money because you will have to pull the head off and have the head resurfaced and new valves put in. With the Camry it's a non interference engine which is if the timing belt breaks, you simply put a new belt on and your good to go. Taurus, I haven't seen too many at shops except for plugged cats and head gaskets so I'm assuming they are pretty reliable.

Just buy whatever you want dude. Any of those cars will last you a long time if taken care of. I don't need to convince you the Camry or Lexus is the best choice because it would be biased because I freaking love Toyota's

POTENTIAL ODOMETER ROLLBACK

There are signs of potential odometer rollback here, so verify the mileage with the seller. I know I would.

I've had and built and fixed and maintainted and messed with at least 10 different cars in my time. They can all be reliable or not depending on maintanance, although my Toyota's have always been the most trouble free.

The best reason I can think of looking at a Camry, after the last 5 years of owning a Gen3 myself, and seeing it as my parents car for 15 years, is this:

They are dead reliable, and:

After all the cars I've had. The only one that didn't start to drive me a little crazy, with some really annoying problem, not a mechanical issue, but some basic aspect of the car that you simply can't fix, upgrade or modify, is the Camry.

i was in the same boat 7 years ago. i work on cars on the side and fords (even though my wife currently drives one) are not built for longevity. i've owned a couple through the years and they never lasted as long as i hoped. too many problems when i decided to cut my losses. same with GM cars (though i love their trucks, and f-bodies). i narrowed my search to the accord and camry. what swung it for me was the non-interference engine. i bought my '96 camry in 2005 for about $4K with 96k miles on the clock. here i am 7 years later, 218k miles on the odometer and she has never let me down and runs great.
