Wireless CarPlay adapter available for Apple CarPlay equipped Corolla’s 2019+ see link: https://carplay2air.com/

Works on other vehicles as well as long as they came with Apple CarPlay from the factory, list of supported vehicles is in the link.

Awesome! Please do and thank you! I only found limited info on it on a Ford forum. I'd be interested in it for the Android Auto integration...

Guess I am a natural skeptic, but not sure I believe the Android Auto. Perhaps its working as a mirror link, but the Air2Play web site says the device works with Android 4.2 and above, yet Android Auto is only supported on 5.0 and above (at least when I've tried to install). And this from the web also raises a caution flag:

"If you are approved, then your refund will be processed, and a credit will automatically be applied to your credit card or original method of payment, within a certain amount of days."

My legal brain tells me that "certain amount" could be any finite number. Oh, well, if it works, who cares about returns. Thanks for trying this out Under8Ed.

I just placed an order after speaking with their customer service rep who assured me 100% the adapter works with my 2019 Hatchback XSE and converts Apple CarPlay to work wirelessly and does in fact add Android Auto to the vehicle. He said they have tested it with every single vehicle that has been added to the supported list of vehicles on their website and everything works perfectly. They also offer 15 day refund if unsatisfied for any reason. Super excited for this!

Help me out, I am correct in understanding that this dongle allows an Android phone to connect to an Apple Carplay only head unit (e.g. 2019 HB)? And if it does, is it like a full featured Android Auto experience (separate from the original Carplay) or is it more janky --like does it route all of your Android apps into a Apple Carplay-like experience?

You are a Corolla headunit hero for trying this out. Thanks, eagerly awaiting your update.

This is literally the worst shipping experience of my life. The tracking is practically useless, they told me yesterday that the package is in my city should arrive by end of day today. Nothing yet, the day is almost over. If I don’t receive it tomorrow it will officially be past their maximum delivery time limit and I will request a full refund. Not happy about how they do shipping at all!

The package shows as delivered yesterday by Canada Post. I did NOT receive this package, no way it was delivered to my address. Contacted Canada Post today they are investigating. Contacted seller told them if I don’t get the package within 24 hours I will be requesting a full refund. Canada Post says it could take until Monday for them to get back to me at the latest. Will update when I get more info. This turned into a nightmare! Literally the worst/longest delivery experience in my life. Not happy at all.

From the rav4world link above,

MntMan says,
Well I have tested the CARPLAY2air usb dongle quite extensively. It is basically worthless for Android auto. No navigation sounds over speakers, no mic, no steering wheel controls. Text messages make it crash and drops you back to the head unit USB input source screen. Unable to create text messages, phone sounds only from speaker and mic from the phone. Random crashes, screen blackout during and after backing up car - have to disconnect and reconnect to make it work again. About the only thing the works acceptable is streaming audio.

If you are considering this as a AA alternate, save yourself the money. Wireless CarPlay seems to work ok, but for the price, not worth the convenience.

From the rav4world link above,

MntMan says,
Thanks for the info. That's unfortunate. I actually could live with some of the issues. I just want to be able to have Waze on the head unit display. I don't even use the audio from Waze now when I'm in my BMW that I installed smart phone integration into it. The other issues with crashing and such. That'll get old with me so I guess this is a bust. So unfortunate as I had high hopes and was willing to spend the money if it was at least stable.

Good news guys! I finally received this today. After painfully slow back and forth communication with their customer service, and them attempting to charge me to send a replacement unit out with express shipping, after refusing to pay a penny extra due to my inconvenience of the carrier loosing the first shipment and the longest wait time in history to receive a product I ordered and paid for... its here. I nearly opted out for a full refund due to the frustration and painfully slow, unorganized back and forth communication with their customer service.

During this entire time they’ve been emailing me instructions on essential firmware update which got lost in numerous other emails I received from them, so I will do my best to update the firmware on this tonight and test it out tomorrow. Will post an update on my testing as soon as I’ve tested everything properly, both wireless iOS and Android Auto. Will be using my iPhone 11 Pro Max and Note 10 Plus. Cheers. ?

Update #1: The wireless AppleCarplay works flawlessly right out of the box. I tested it for a couple of hours, it does absolutely everything exactly the same way as it would while wired, no lag of any kind that is perceivable to the eye, I am actually pleasantly surprised and impressed at how well the wireless AppleCarplay works. I tested google maps, Waze, apple’s built in GPS, Apple Music and other apps, literally all aspects of the performance are identical to being wired but just works wirelessly. Initial setup required the pairing to be done over Bluetooth. Connected dongle to Apple CarPlay port, then connected headunit via Bluetooth to dongle for pairing. After it paired it appeared to have been doing something in the background, and shortly thereafter the wireless AppleCarplay just appeared and started working. I was mind blown. Works just as if it was released by the factory. The interesting thing is after initial Bluetooth pairing, you can completely turn off Bluetooth on the iPhone and everything just stays connected and works wirelessly. This blew my mind. Even sound, GPS voice, music and phone calls came through wirelessly through the dongle.

Their firmware update instructions are a mess, very confusing and difficult process to update this firmware. I’m a very tech savvy individual, and even for me this was one big clustermess.. I have not updated the firmware or checked if it is in fact running the latest version because of how stupid and complicated their “instructions” are. I am however pretty confident that they updated this unit to the latest firmware before shipping it out to me, as they shipped it shortly after the latest firmware was released and were very aware that the unit is being reviewed and getting traction. I will have to get someone from their team on the phone to dig into this firmware update stuff more.

I will now attempt to thoroughly test out AndroidAuto, the only reason I did not do that yet is because I forgot to bring the cable with me for my Note 10+, so I couldn’t plug it into the dongle for testing. Based on how perfectly the wireless Apple CarPlay works, I have a very good feeling about AndroidAuto!

Check later this evening for Update #2.!.

What a breakthrough!

All this mess of going through the dealer to get things to work is a nightmare I am sure. This info will help many owners navigate the muddy waters as Toyota will not plan to roll out AA to all models.

Glad to hear it's working out for you. By the way, how well is the volume coming out of the iPhone into the head unit. I know another member was complaining that the volume was low even with the volume control turned up.

Glad to be of help. In regards to the sound, I dug into this deeply and at least through Apple CarPlay wirelessly the only difference is it’s an average of 10%-15% (max) quieter. In other words if using Apple CarPlay wired at 30% volume, you may have to go to 40% volume while using wirelessly to hear the same volume level, but the sound quality in general is very good, nothing to complain about there. Hope that helps.
P.S. I’m just wondering how they were able to make it all work so well wirelessly without Bluetooth being turned on, on the iPhone! This puzzles me in a good way.

It likely has something to do with the Corolla wiring. Since the middle port is for the car play and the other port is for power.

Should look closer as to how the wire harness connects to both the device and the headunit. It's very probable that the Bluetooth signal is soldered to the PCB and isn't handled wirelessly? That's how it's playing in my mind. That's likely how the iPhone doesn't need the Bluetooth on. Your note 10 can then just utilize the bt wirelessly. Though, the test will be when switching between the 2.

If the dongle remains plugged into the Apple CarPlay USB port, when the vehicle is turned off, then back on, the iPhone has to have Bluetooth on to connect to the dongle briefly for automatic authentication, then immediately after authentication it disconnects Bluetooth on its own when observing iPhone’s Bluetooth settings live. The entire authentication process when starting the vehicle up, until you can see wireless CarPlay displayed takes about 35-45 seconds, then everything just works like a dream. It’s much faster to authenticate if the vehicles is already running and headunit is fully booted (15 sec). When wireless Apple CarPlay is fully engaged, wifi is automatically disabled on the iPhone and re-enabling it would disconnect wireless Apple CarPlay as per warning message on iPhone. Interesting. Moving on to AndroidAuto #now. :)

UPDATE #2: AndroidAuto works. Went to BestBuy and purchased an original Samsung USB-A to USB-C cable.. Upon plugging the Note 10+ into the dongle it said it needed to download software to connect to the dongle.. Clicked on link to download software called Dragonscreen. In the Dragonscreen app you can only select the following screen resolutions: 800x480, 1280x720, 1800x1000, 1920x1080, 1920x720. It doesn’t say anywhere which resolution to choose, but 800x480 shows the entire duplicate screen from the Note 10+, although it looks crappy due to the low resolution. So it literally duplicates the screen to the head-unit in a lower resolution. The only other setting inside Dragonscreen app is Bluetooth ON and OFF. Seems the phone must always be on so it duplicates to the headunit exactly what it sees. Sound is transferred via Bluetooth. I’d rather just look at my Note 10+‘s screen in full glorious resolution than this low ass duplicate resolution on the head unit! Kinda pointless to me to be honest. Yes it works, but just a mirror image of the phone on the factory headunit duplicated in low res. Phone screen locked, you see nothing on the headunit. Odd. I’m going to test out all of the resolutions to see if I can get a better quality duplicated on the headunit. Not as exciting as the wireless AppleCarplay. Will post some pics soon.

No. That’s a no go. When the dongle has the Note 10+ USB plugged in, it just duplicates the screen to the headunit. If the USB is unplugged, then the Apple CarPlay works wirelessly. Personally I won’t be using this for AndroidAuto as I get a much better experience just using the Note 10+ screen and connecting it to Bluetooth for sound. I really don’t see the point of this. :/
