Worst thing about your Camry

I like to read the pros and cons about everything, but today we are going to focus on the bad. I love my 2014.5 Toyota Camry Se I4 to death(who wouldn't if you paid 22,000 OTD for it) even my wife hates it when I tell her to be careful where she steps when she gets in so she doesn't track dirt all over the place. There are many good things I can say about the Camry and I've just about heard about all of them on this site. My question is, what are the bad things about the vehicle? What don't you like about it? If you had the opportunity would you trade it for something else? I personally don't like how 80 percent of the interior is made of plastic. Speakers could be a whole lot better. You have to step on the brakes a bit harder than most cars to stay in place. The car also moves forward or backwards a few inches when I park on the slightest hill. What's your opinion?

Road Noise! VERY noisy, gives me new found appreciation for my '11 Malibu LTZ, which is super quiet in comparison. I had my sights set on the redesigned '14 Corolla ECO with Premium package, drove it and it was solid tight and really quiet, very nice car, but for just a little more I upsized to the Camry, still questioning the decision. BTW I have Bridgestone's, hoping that's the source of the noise, but I doubt it.

1- constantly confused transmission, especially in traffic.

2- this has been fixed in post '12s, but the lack of on-center steering sucks. Our '13 RAV with EPS is so much better and easier to track straight. It wouldn't be that bad if I didn't keep getting un-used to the '12 Camry's since I drive the RAV a lot on the weekends.

3- 12k miles and already pulsing when braking. Probably uneven pad transfer, but @ 12k is a bit ridiculous. I plan to trade it in before fixing this.

4- mystery hollow metallic popping sound since 200 miles.

5- has not been trouble free. In fact, I'm currently in a rental for a 3rd time in 18 months of ownership (bought new).

The only two down sides to my 2012 SE 4cyl is:

-That the Nav screens glares like crazy when the sunroof is open.

-That my 4cyl is not a 6cyl. I didn't have the money when I originally bought the car since I was still in school. I have gone back multiple times to the dealer test driving and debating whether I should trade it in for a 6cyl.

This is by far the best car I ever owned. Only gripes I really have is the super thin paint that has chipped in so many spots on front bumper and hood with only 19,000 miles. Also the pain in the ass GPS doesn't let you add or do anything while the car is moving which is stupid since many times when I'm driving my wife would like to change a location etc. it won't let you. Other then that, great car. Love the V6.

over riding the speed cable on the harness is a quick fix!

Before I get any short jokes, I'm not THAT short... maybe not tall, but not short (5' 7"), BUT, the one thing that annoys me most about my 13' SE, is that the visors seem to be just a tad small/short. Without fail when I flip them down to keep the sun out of my eyes, I need to physically lift my body to aid in keeping the sun out. And yes, I've tried multiple visor angles, but it just doesn't seem to come down far enough.

Mind you, I used to have a '10 highlander, and currently have a '13 sienna, and neither had this problem.

Awful paint quality is my number one complaint. I have what looks like water spots but are actually where the clear coat has been damaged by something. I have been to the dealer about it and they always say it is from atmospheric fallout. Those people are worthless. On top of that I purchased the extra paint warranty and they won't do anything about it.

Just Minor things for me.
Road Noise (Mich Tires)
Speaker Quality
Lack of Auto windows for passenger side
Lack of blind spot mirror. Other models have it.
Window lock locks the driver from using the other windows to. (I thought it was meant for the kids.)

I really like the car but should have gotten a Fusion I'm afraid. Couldn't beat the price and the trade in value of my last car.

BAD paint:facepalm: quality and the ROAD and Wind noise.

On the SE.. it takes too long:facepalm: for the suspension to loosen up BUT rides a lot better after 12,000 miles..:D

They need to put better stereos:facepalm: in these cars...like the all NEW Harman Kardon's that they are now putting in the BMW's.

SE's are supposed to ride firmer. Mine's an SE Sport with the 18" wheels and is even firmer than the SE, but I like a firm ride. If it was a softer ride you wanted, an LE or XLE would have been a better choice.

Well if you take the money you saved fom buying a BMW, you can get quite a nice stereo.

I test drove the Honda Sport before buying this, and THAT has a terrible 4 speaker stereo, and a much harsher ride. Those two things made me not think twice about walking out of the Honda dealership.

Posted this in the wrong forum...

Have had had my Camry SE for two and a half years (and almost 55K miles) My only complaint - and it drives crazy, is the front bumper cover. Once I bought my car and started having issues, I noticed how many others have the same problems. I would not buy another Camry until Toyota changes this.

I must say that I love the car overall. It's been 2 years (almost exactly) and I feel it was a really excellent purchase. At this point I have no interest in driving any other car. Butttttttt.... there are a few little nit-picks...

1) GPS... the lack of control when the car is in motion, the spoken command functions that tend to not understand clear speech. The GPS in general is really old in terms of display and functionality, compared to other units. And the maps are ancient and contain really old info that hasn't been updated.

2) I'm just going to Discount Tire to pick up my car. My 17" Michelins that came with it (2012 Camry SE I4) lasted only 25K miles before wearing the tread down. Remember your tread warranties, people! At least I got a huge discount on the replacement tires because of the warranty (like 60% off each tire). And yes I did rotate them regularly (rotated regularly during Toyota Care scheduled services)

3) Mileage. It sucks. I usually can only get around 21 - 28 mpg combined city/hwy driving. Usually it's closer to the lower end of that range. But I love driving the car, so I'll put up with it. But it was an adjustment compared to the Corolla I owned previously (which got closer to 40 mpg combined city/hwy driving).

The musty a/c smell is either better now or I just don't notice it as much anymore.
