Wouldn't it be cool if

there was a way that 3 kids could actually fit in the back of my accesscab Prerunner. I bought my Prerunner like 5 months ago and I drive mostly on pavement and decided that I did not need the doors or the 6 cylinders for my 30 mile round trip commute.

However, after buying the truck my wife told me that we are pregnant with our 3rd. Oh joy! My bad! It will all workout in the end, and the baby will be a huge blessing I am sure.

I really like my truck and the gas mileage is great and I do not want to get rid of it.

Has anyone seen anything out there?

Just wondering.

Do you have another car? If not your out of luck don't torture your family and get something else.

I cant believe your doing it with two kids.....? how old are they? your gas mileage will hardly change with a DC (if at all)

Do they make DC SB with the 4 cylinder? Anyway good luck and congrats! I find it hard with 2 kids (2 and 4) with stuff to fit it all in.

I have a boy who is 5 that sits in front and my 3 year old daughter sits in her car seat in the back. She has plenty of room back there but it would be tight for anyone over the age of say 11.

I have a Honda Odyssey that we use for the rest of the family. We are fine and that is what we drive for everything else.

I was just curious if anyone had tried to do that mod. I will eventually get a doublecab longbed prerunner once we have some money. Right now I love my truck and am getting great mileage and great utility while we build a house.

The DC has great room in back. My 5 year old is very happy with the room. I'd highly recommend the DC. I'm quite pleased with the gas mileage actually. I'm getting 600+kms city driving on one tank. $60 fills it up easily here. The extra room is very handy. I have zero regrets getting the larger truck

Damn- I averaged 18 or 19 this summer in mine, and its stock! I didn't think I was that aggressive a driver

In all honesty, I'm not sure how well suited even the DC is to younger kids- I don't have any of my own, but I've had a friends 4 y/o in the back and his seat is large enough that the front seat needs to be pulled pretty far forward to keep his feet from hitting the front seatback. May not be a problem with smaller kids/smaller car seats, and I know its not a problem for kids who are out of booster seats either, but it would seem that it could be a rough time for the final years of a kid being in a booster seat.

Thanks guys for all of your replies. I will be keeping my accesscab and in 10 years or so will probably give it to my son. It is a great little engine that averages about 25 mpg all the time. A lot of people do not believe me but I track each tank carefully.

Have a Merry Christmas!

id see if someone can fabricate a shelf in the middle just wide enough for a baby seat, over the middle hump, attaching to the existing seat belt bolts at the back.

Id Also relocate the bolts for the seatbelts further from the center to create space for that 3rd seat, remove the plastic coin tray things, and see if anyone can fabricate another seat belt point for a middle seat. Id also look into having the center console modified to remove the rear cup holders to create a lil more leg room.

I know the rear is tight for space, but its still usable, I reguarly drive with 3 small kids back there. And thats with a sub box taking up a good 30% of one of the footwells.

Congrats on the new addition. If it were me, I'd trade the AC for a DC. I have a 5 (almost 6) year old and a 19 month old. With a car seat and a booster seat back there it works just fine. It even worked with an infant seat turned backwards. I dont see any problems for my 5 year old as far as leg room, etc.

You'll take a loss on the trade but it may be worth it if you start using your truck more ofter than the minivan.^_^

That is what I am talking about it, coming up with some ideas on how to do this. I think for right now I would hold off but I can see how this would work just fine. I know Toyota would never do this as it would not make much sense since they have the DBCab.

Good idea though.
