My firend got a 1991 Toyota camry with the 3S-FE motor. It was given to him for free and it only had 27k on the odometer. We did a complete tune up on the engine and the car runs very good. We were thinking that we could put a few dollars in the motor to make it fast to be would respect this little toyota.

My Ideas are:
- Build custom coldair intake (Might need differnt MAF) EST. $125
- Advance the timing to run on 92 octain (No idea)
- Header Pace Setter $175
- 2.5 inch pipe with Quiet High flow Muffler $300

Having no idea how to trick the computer into a catless exhaust and no idea to advance the timing so a custom tune is say what $300

So that makes $900 for what I would safely call 20 rwhp

Or.....

A 60 shot of nos $600 (dry would be nice)

These motors have Cast iron blocks and heads so what do that have for internals?

If there forged then this motor could be quite the performer, as long as the tranny holds together.

Any ideas?

(Dont ask why I want to make a camry fast, hopefully it will be so fast that no one can see how ugly it realy is.)

the only way to make any kind of power worth the money on these cars is FI.

have a look at seeing how much a 3sge motor/ecu/loom costs in yoru area, sell the low km 3sfe and do a swap. all that motor work you plan on wont even get it close to the stock output of an older gen 3sge.

go nos, but expensive on refills.

Can you please tell me how you are going to get power to the rear wheels in a front wheel drive car?

Also, the 3s-fe doesn't response well to bolt-on modifications. With an auto, you MIGHT get 10 wheel horsepower from the mods you mention... Nitrous or turbo is the way to make real power.

Before you go thinking I'm talking out my ass, I've had two manual 3s-fe Camry, one with N/A bolt ons (CAI, Header, Exhaust, hi-flow cat, etc), and one with a turbo and now with an in-progress motor swap. :)

:ugh3:

Umm...since when was a Gen2 Camry ugly?
When you consider that the design of the later models pretty much followed the same "jellybean" concept of design, the boxy yet sleek design of the Gen2 Camry really stands out on it's own.

Secondly, your automatic tranny will not hold the power you envision.
It's a slushbox that was really made for transportation, not performance.

You can modify the Pacesetter Header to fit on a Camry and add the 2.5 exhaust system, but that would be pointless unless you do the necessary porting and headwork to compensate the larger path of airflow coming in (CAI) and going out (header & exhaust). Otherwise, you're forcefeeding air like passing sand through an hourglass.

A 60 shot of "NOS" will not work to your expectations...

...even so, a 60 shot of nitrous won't serve any purpose either.

ARGGH This makes me so mad!
If i were to tell you what i thought right now, id be BANNED FROM TN!!!

In any case, theres no way you can get 20 "RW" hp from just what youve said. Yes, the car may respond and breathe better, but no way does it increase the power THAT much without something more major (at least on 3SFE anyways :)).

Secondly, Gen 2's are NOT UGLY. YOUR UGLY.

Bye bye, have a nice life.

well ide say theres no point in putting on ANY (including a dry shot of nox<bad idea, go wet) of the mody that you were looking at on.

instead go down to autozone and buy a thrush glasspack and spectre air filter and their maf sensor adaptor and bolt that on. youll maby notice a small diff in throttle response but hey its only like 65 bucks. also loosen the 2 bolts on the distribuito and turn it slightly and there youve advanced your timing. lets see..... 900/65= 13.8 so my idea is about 14x better than your original with about the same results.
Damn im good.......

Edit: oh yeah i agree with jetspeed about the gen 2's

1. 3S-FE use a AFM not a MAF. There is a difference between the 2.

2. Advancing the ignition timing is easy. Theres a distributor.

3. If you don't know what your doing, its best you not mess with it. :disappoin

Cast iron block and aluminum head.
