Programming Instructions for Corolla, Avalon, Camry, Matrix, Echo, Highlander, others

Programming OEM Wirless Door Lock Remote Transmitters (taken from Toyota Technical Service bulletin Dated 7/19/02)-Applies to 2000-2003 Celica, 2001-2003 Echo, Highlander, Prius and RAV4, 2002-2003 Camry and Avalon, 2003 Corolla and Matrix.

1)Driver’s door open and unlocked.

2)Insert and remove (do not turn) key from ignition two times (within 5 seconds).

3)Close and open driver’s door TWICE (within 40 seconds).

4)Insert key in ignition (do not turn) and remove.

5)Close the door.

6)Turn the ignition switch from “Lock” to “ON” and back to “Lock” at about one second intervals to select the desired mode:
-1 time for ADD mode
-2 times for REWRITE mode
-3 times for CONFIRMATION mode
-5 times for PROHIBITION mode
To confirm your mode selection, the power locks will now cycle “lock” to “unlock” a number of time corresponding to your key cycles in earlier in this step.

7)For ADD or REWRITE modes, within 40 seconds of Door Lock confirmation
a)press both Lock and Unlock buttons on transmitter simultaneously for about 1.5 seconds.
b)within 3 seconds of step A, press only the Lock button for 1 second.
c)If the transmitter has been successfully programmed, the power locks will cycle “lock” to “unlock” ONCE. If there is a problem, the locks will cycle TWICE. If this occurs, verify you have the correct transmitter, and repeat the above procedure.
d)If multiple remotes are to be repropgrammed, Repeat steps A-C.

Keyless Entry Programming
1. REGISTRATION OF RECOGNITION CODE HINT:

o The add mode is used to retain the already registered codes while registering a new recognition code. This mode is used when adding a transmitter. If the number of the registered codes exceeds 4, the previously registered code will be correspondingly erased in order, starting from the first registered code.
o The rewrite mode is used to erase all the previously registered codes and register only new recognition codes. This mode is used when exchanging the transmitter or the door control receiver for new one.
o The prohibition mode is used to erase all the registered codes and cancel the wireless door lock function. Use this mode when the transmitter is lost.
o The confirmation mode is to confirm how many recognition codes have already been registered before an additional registration of a recognition code.
o All the following registration procedures must be performed in order continuously.

1. The vehicle should be in the following conditions.

1. No key is in the ignition key cylinder.
2. Driver's door is opened (the other doors are closed).
3. Driver's door is unlocked.

2. Perform the following operations to select the desired mode.

1. Insert and remove the key from the ignition switch twice within 5 seconds .
2. After the above operations, close and open the driver door twice within 40 seconds . Then insert the key into the ignition key cylinder and remove it.
3. After the above operations, close and open the driver door twice within 40 seconds . Then insert the key into the ignition key cylinder and close the door.
4. Turn the ignition switch from LOCK to ON and back to LOCK at approximately 1 second intervals 1 to 5 times to select a mode (see the table). Then remove the key from the ignition key cylinder. NOTE: If the number of the ON-LOCK operations of the ignition switch is 0, 4 or 6 or more, there will be no response (power door lock and unlock operation) to inform which mode has been selected.
5. After selecting a mode, the integration relay automatically performs the power door LOCK-UNLOCK operation within 3 seconds to inform the selected mode (see the table).

HINT:

* In confirmation mode, the LOCK-UNLOCK operation will occur once for each recognition code that has been registered. For example, if 2 recognition codes have been registered, the LOCK-UNLOCK operation will occur 2 times.
* In confirmation mode, if no recognition codes have been registered, the LOCK-UNLOCK operation will occur 5 times.
* In confirmation mode and prohibition mode, once a LOCK-UNLOCK operation response has occurred, the registration procedure will end.

3. Register the new recognition codes (Add mode or Rewrite mode):

1. Within 40 seconds after the add mode or the rewrite mode has been selected, press the LOCK and UNLOCK switches on the transmitter simultaneously for 1.0 to 1.5 seconds .Within 3 seconds after the previous operation, press either one of the switches for more than 1.0 seconds .
2. Within 3 seconds after the transmitter switch has been turned OFF, the LOCK-UNLOCK operation will be automatically performed once if the registration of the recognition code of the transmitter is completed correctly. In case the LOCK-UNLOCK operation is performed twice, the registration of recognition code has failed. Perform the registration procedure from the beginning once again.
3. If multiple transmitters need to be registered, repeat step (1) within 40 seconds after the previous registration. HINT:

o 4 recognition codes can be registered at once.
o If even one of the following conditions is satisfied, the registration mode will finish.
o 40 seconds have elapsed since the most recent transmitter registration.
o Any of the doors is opened.
o The key plate is inserted in the ignition key cylinder.
o 4 recognition codes are registered at once.

I saw your post dated way back nov. of 2008. I am from Ontario too, I was wondering if you were able to program the key fob remote of your 2001 Toyota Corolla? And what was the correct instructions? and did it work?

Thanks and will appreciate it if you could post the instructions.

I have tried the program and have not had any success. I did the door dance and got the "lock - unlock" confirmation, but when I press the lock and unlock buttons at the same time, then just the lock button, I get nothing. Battery is good, I even bought a new remote (battery is good in that one as well) and nothing. Is it the DCM? HELP!!

I have a 2003 Camry I4

Thanks,

Me again, I have bought a new remote and a new receiver door control (well new to me from the pick a part) and I still can't get the remote to program. Did the door dance with one turn of the key at the end. The door locks cycled once. Then I push the lock and unlock buttons at the same time for about 2 seconds, then I push the lock button for for 2-3 seconds and I get nothing. The locks don't cycle at all. What could this be?

Programming mode for Toyota Corolla Ascent 2003 in Australia

Hi, I couldn't enter programming mode?
My Toyota Corolla Ascent 2003 is in Australia, so I tried the driver's door (front right) and passenger door (front left).
Maybe there's a different code outside of America?

What trim is your car?

If it's a CE, not only will you not have keyless, you won't have the wiring or hardware for it.

If it's an LE, it's almost guaranteed to have keyless as I'm 99% certain it was standard.

If it's an S, it's 50/50.

There is no real easy way to check if you have keyless as the keyless entry parts are difficult to reach/require panel removal. If you want to check, pull the passenger side C pillar trim panel and loon for a box bolted to the C pillar marked "Door Control Receiver." If the DCR is there, you have keyless.

2003-2004 models don't have chip keys. The car has no way of knowing your key is a master key or original. That requirement does not apply.
