Sometime ago my 4-legged buddy Cash tore a big gash in the armrest above the storage compartment of the cars console. I looked into a number of self-repair approaches. The results for some would have been gawdy cheap; the others would have likely failed as per all of the bad reviews I saw.
A new dealer armrest was going to run $250.00-$325.00 approx. depending on who I bought it from.
I talked to countless used parts sellers online and was not all that impressed with their pricing. One had the gall to say it was .01 cent for the part and $200.00 for shipping. Really?
I finally found a used one - clean - on ebay, but before I ordered it, I thought I would see about what was involved with removing/installing another. Examining parts diagrams online and online videos, I was led to believe that in my case, the back end of the console unit(a/c section in back seat) would need to be removed.
For the purpose of replacing the armrest portion of my car, that would not be needed. I lifted up the arm rest and saw 2 holes in the bottom corners. A very small phillips screw was affixed in each hole. Used a magnetic screw bit to keep from loosing these tiny creatures. Once out, I then used a flat blade screwdriver to pry the black paneling these 2 screws helped to secure about 10-11 inches north along a seam. Easy does it. Once that broke loose(there are 2 tabs on that end that serve to secure) - I used same screwdriver to pry along an open area along the sides of this panel. Off it comes.
With that panel off, it's easy to see there are 2 arms - each with 2 screws. Remove these 4 screws and the armrest is off and out of the car. It's my opinion this part of the process is more easily accomplished from the back seat.
Reassembly is the reverse, but I would like to add a comment about connecting the new pad to the 2 arms. Again - this is done while seated in the back seat. Next to each screw hole in the new armrest is a + shaped guide post. The 2 arms are connected to the new armrest using these guide posts to get the armrest in proper position. Make sure all 4 guide posts are thru their respective holes in the 2 arms. Once that's done - you may begin installing the 4 short screws.
Info on colors and parts numbers for this armrest may be found at this and many other sites. In my case. the first 5 numbers are 58905.
