2009 Camry 10K Miles. Rough idle when in gear, please help!

This is my first post in this forum. I just bought a 2009 Camry LE (4 cylinder) about a week ago. It's only got 10K miles on it. Ever since I got the car, I've noticed a very slight vibration when stopped and in gear. It does this when the engine is cold and warm. It only does this when im in gear with my foot on the brake and stopped.

I still have warranty, should I bring it in to the dealer? Is there a simple fix for this? Or is this normal? Thanks

Exactly how much vibration are you feeling? You drive a four-cylinder Camry, it's not going to idle silently and vibration-free like an LS430. A little vibration is normal. The V6 is better in that respect but all engines will vibrate a little while idling and in gear.

It's a slight vibration that I can feel in the steering wheel and when I lean my head against the headrest. Sometimes the vibration feels a little stronger than other times but the vibration doesn't feel horrible. I'm just concerned because sometimes it doesn't do it and other times it does. It's a brand new car and I've never felt this type of thing in other cars I have driven.

same thing happened to mine, they said it was some sort of carbon build up that caused it. the dealer did whatever they did and it was smooth and quiet like a baby again for some time. but it just started doing it alil so i plan to take it back

You'll always be confused when you ask about an obscure "problem" and get every Tom, Dick and Harry's opinion.....

My brother's 08 had a similar problem at 25k...we took it to the dealer and surprisingly it would dissappear as the rep took it for a drive. After it started to vibrate again he took it to the same dealer told him to drive it with my bro sitting beside and lo and behold the vibrations were back. They said that the transmissions firmware needed to be updated and there is a moisture build up near the transmission which needs to be cleaned up and resealed..all done by the dealer under warranty. So the lesson learned..everytime u feel there is a problem with ur car take it to the dealer as soon as possible till ur warranty runs out!!! P.S. His camry is an I4 too!! They don't make camry's as they used to before.

Well, my 2009 4 cylinder 5speed manual camry has had an intermittent rough idle just about since new. I understand that a 4cylinder is not going to be as smooth as a V6, but my RPM will drop to about 550RPM (stopped with clutch depressed), run rough for a few seconds, then sometimes catches its breath and repairs itself. This happens intermittently, needless to say it is worse with the AC on.
I have had the throttle body cleaned a few times to ensure this is not a maintenance issue, I complained to Toyota, wise guy service rep said I don't know how to drive a manual transmission and blew me off.
A Toyota service tech told me that these new throttle by wire models have no IAC valve in the throttle body, I'm guessing that makes the idle tougher to control. I'm thinking there is a problem with the original ECU programming/mapping causing this.
I would definitely continue to complain to dealer/Toyota, make sure to take the service writer/tech for a ride to ensure they experience the problem. Continue with the complaint process outlined in the owner's manual to make sure there is a paper trail in case of failure/problems after the warranty expires.

The deck was stacked against me even before we began. I followed the Toyota arbitration process completely, the last step is a meeting between me, the wise ass Toyota service rep, and some "arbitrator" chosen by Toyota.
I was complaining about the 4 cylinder engine that knocks like a worn out Vega for 5-10 minutes during a gentle warm up, was told this is "normal" and that I am just not up on the latest engine technology! The erratic idle was blown off in a similar fashion, and it was evident that the "impartial arbitrator" was in Toyota's pocket. All I was asking for was a partial extension of the powertrain warranty in case one these symptoms created a failure after the original warranty ended, I didn't even get that.
So, I have learned that Toyotas are no swiss watches, and won't be buying another one, that is for sure.

I really have to pay attention to the thread start dates on these things :) I saw the first post "10k on 2009" and was like "Whaaaaatttt?? 10k on a 7 year old car?!" No.

73caprice, as a 4 banger Toyota owner for 8 years now, I can tell you they do run rougher than the other variants. My '09 is auto, but I have a '97 Tacoma 4 cylinder manual as well. Both have a rougher idle than other vehicles I have owned. I've had the rpm drop a bit low at times as well when idling, but have never had any real issues from it.
