As I'm sure you've noticed, our cars lack any kind of engine cover. By no means is this an issue, but I prefer the cleaner look of having one. No USA sold vehicle with the M20 comes with one, so I started digging to find a solution.

It appears the Chinese market Wildlander (RAV4) comes with the M20 and has an engine cover. Could locate some part numbers but could not find a way to source one. There may be other regions and models where you could source from, but as of my findings a few months ago it's impossible.

I noticed the cover clip locations are apparently identical to that of the Camry/RAV4 with the A25 motor and picked up a used takeoff cover. It's too tall to clear the windshield cowl and sadly does not fit.

However in digging through Aliexpress I came across this option.

It's listed for the Corolla Cross, but given that they use the same M20 engine I figured it'd likely work. It does! 2 things to note though, one is that it pushes up against the air shroud at the back of the engine but doesn't seem to be harmful in any way, the other is that at the front passenger side edge it rubs against the hood insulator pad. Heat gun and some persuasion could be used to curl that edge down a bit for extra clearance, but it doesn't seem to be an issue.

It came well packaged in a decent sized box, and includes 2 ball studs plus a rubber grommet for installation.

One stud screws into the pre-threaded location here. The other goes on the back of the cover itself.

Next up the rubber grommet slots into this existing location.

After that the cover snaps on to the 3 mounting points on the valve cover + the 2 additional ones added.

Access to the oil fill and dipstick are unaffected. There's a variety of color options available, I chose the black and silver as it was the most OEM looking. The cover itself is high quality feeling plastic, with foil backed insulation on the underside for thermal and sound insulation. The silver portion is painted and not perfectly sharp on the edges but for the price I cannot complain. The Toyota logo looks genuine and is nicely chromed.

Overall very pleased with the result! It tidies up the engine bay, hiding some of the rats nest of wires and hoses. Everyone that I've shown says it looks like an OEM part and is shocked that it's a Chinese knockoff special. For $70 it's way nicer than I ever expected and fits so well.

Those acrylic hoods are only for show n shine competitions. How much bling you don’t see when it’s the factory hood.

Password JDM has made most of their products since the 2000 em1 si. I’m thankful that they support multiple brands now. Got my eye on some stuff for my Mazda in the future.
