2nd Gen parts sources/interchange

So I've been looking through the internets and the Camry forums here for maybe a week or two, and I'm not finding a whole lot of aftermarket support for this generation Camry. I am seeing a lot of "this part from this other car may fit...", but no "Yes this definitely fits; I know because I'm using it". So, what I'd like to see is known good parts interchange for 2nd Gen (especially AllTrac), or sources for parts/mods for these cars.

A few I'd like to hear some specific confirmation on:

1) exhaust manifold/cat/downpipe from 5S-FE celica is direct bolt in for same on 3S-FE equipped Camrys

2) K&N FIPK for 5S-FE equipped Celica is direct-fit for 3S-FE

3)7th gen Celica short-throw (or stock?) shifter bolts right in as a short-throw shifter for 2nd-gen Camry.

4) There exists seat rails that will allow one to bolt aftermarket seats into a 2nd gen Camry... who makes them? what seats do they fit? who sells them?

5) KYB makes rear AllTrac struts... but you have to get them imported from the UK or Japan?

But, please, post any known interchanges or performance parts with a source for them.

Thanks!

I appreciate the information, but how does that contribute to the known interchangability of these parts?

The history of the engines is pretty well documented between here and wikipedia. I was hoping more for concrete, emperical examples of what parts work on early Camrys and where people can get them (junkyard being a totally acceptable answer), as I find that knowledge to be sorely lacking for these cars.

Do you know specific years where the 5S and 3S used the same head? During these years did they use the same manifolds as well? Do you have personal experience swapping these parts?

I hope I'm not coming across as being antagonistic or unapreciative, and if I am, I do apologize as that is not my intent.

#1... probbly won't make much of a difference if it fits and swaps over... get some 3sge header out of a celica that'll work for sure of course it won't match up to your stock exhuast but that's the easy part right ?

#2 no idea

#3. yeah it works but i still swapped it back out cause it's too forward for me compared to where my steering wheel is... but then again i got a quick rls and hub on it... so it might work with stock steering wheel better.. wanna buy it off me??

#4. http://www.howars.co.jp/main.php?pg=top_053 good luck getting them to ship it to you or even speak english yeheheheh..anyways #T083SR and #T084SR is for the sv21..i forget which is left and which is right

#5. no idea i don't have an all-trac.

I've looked over rock auto - great source for stock replacement stuff, not really much in the way of upgrades.

Atobe - how much do you want for it? And how much would shipping be to 95407?

Another thing I was wondering, I've heard that V6 axles can be swapped in in place of the 4 cylinder axles, anyone have more info on this?

v6 axles are the same length as the 4 cyl, but the diameters are different and there are 2 designs also, the hubs and the transmission side gears are bigger for the v6 axles and the designs are a pop in or a companion flange at the trans, oh and the support bearing on the passenger side axle is bigger on the v6 axle too. The ex manifolt for any 3s or 5s with any head is the same where it bolts to the head and get the downpipe for what ever manifold you use, and there are headers made, any improvement to the ex side will help

This is not quite true. The exhaust manifolds for any 3s/5s motor originally came to this country will fit. Later (JDM '94+) 3s-gte and 3s-ge exhaust manifolds are incompatible. Intake manifolds are incompatible between many 3s and 5s variants, so don't go there.

Re #2: 3s-fe and 5s-fe aftermarket intakes will be different. The US 5s-fe uses a MAP sensor for fueling, and the early 3s-fe (for the gen2 Camry) uses an AFM.

might need to swap the cross member as well for the v6 to i4 swap. I'm not sure though. never looked under a v6 yet.

as for the OP.

Get celica stuff and make it work.lol that's the best advice I can give when it comes to this car. hell look at me and charlies engine bays.lol

I'm looking forward to getting a GTS coilover kit this year.
