You'd need to have the service department make that change (if it is available on your vehicle). That or connect your car to a laptop running the TechStream software.

Also agreed. I keep blinking until the lane change is complete. Blinkers are sort of a tic for me. If you don't use your blinker to change lanes from me, you will get a headlight flash or a honk, if it's dangerous/cut-off/cars ahead are blinking. While a three-blinker won't get a honk or headlight flash from me - after all, at least the blinker was used - it'd still be sort of a bare minimum thing that leaves me nonplussed.

 

AFAIK the 3 blink feature was introduced on MY 2013+ Camry.

My 2013 Camry SE I4 does this but my 2013 4Runner Limited does not. For me, it is a nice convenience to have the 3-blink option when I'm running down I35. 5 would be okay too. But it is annoying when I'm used to having it in the camry and then drive the 4R and have to hold it down. Can't believe that a base model would have it vs a hard loaded model not having it.

I bought a Techstream but I have not had a chance to hook it up and see if I can use it to turn that feature in on the 4Runner. Maybe this weekend.

I don't think you even need to hold the lever down. Just click it on (left or right), leave it for a bit, switch lanes, then switch it back off. Easiest thing in the world. I don't think this feature justifies a trip to the dealer or buying a techstream. But that's my opinion anyway

It is possible, my 2013 model came standard with 3 blinks. I took it to the dealer for one of the recommended checkups and asked them to change it to 5 blinks. I got lucky and got it done for free since none of them had done it before, but they said afterward they'd have to charge a service (labor) fee typically.

 

3 blinks great for lane changing!!!

 

I just took mine in and they said that it cannot be done on the 2012. I don't believe him but it's not something i really need.

OP - I would be pretty sure there would be a way to do it with a relay and a transistor-reisistor-capacitor circuit.

I was thinking something like a PAC TR-7 would work, but it doesn't look like it has the required features.

Cruise control saves gas.

 

You must have a very nervous foot. Most if not all cruise control is over sensitive compared to a steady foot. I can get 1 to 2 MPG better with out it.

Lmao thats true. I usually put my blinker once I am halfway through the lane change, so in my case 3 blinks is enough.

I don't trust other drivers' reaction times to start blinking mid way through a lane change. I usually let it blink a few times before moving over in the other lane and the let it go another 2 blinks.

 

^^^ exactly, that's why I set mine to 5, so that I could give a warning blink or 2, and then signal 90% of the way over.
