Wrong. The 5MGE is NOT an interference engine. If it were I would have totally f*cked up my engine with how many times I've rotated the cams and crank seperately. Almost no timing belt toyota engines are interference. Neither the 5MGE, 6MGE, or 7MGE (or GTE) are interference.

 

Toyotas are probably the best cars to have a timing belt break on. Won't do damage at all.

lol yep. Not like you would want to have a timing belt to break on you :lol:

 

The valve flycuts in the piston tops are very, very deep (I have photos from last weekend).
I guess that allows the valves to be fully open even when the piston is at top dead centre.
