I went out to start my truck and all it did was turn over. It has always started. So I waited a day and tried it, it started for a 5 sec or so then nothing. I called my mech and they came and got it and took it to their shop. I got a call later and they told me they checked everything and all they could determine was the computer was bad. After finding out a be one was $1100+, I found a place that rebuilt them and warrantied it. They took all my truck specs, vin mileage engine etc. It still does not start. I am sitting in the waiting room of mechanic trying to figure out if it was misdiagnosed. any thoughts?

Hard to say what the problem might be without knowing what your mechanic has already checked.

Very generally speaking, if the starter spins, the problem is usually fuel or spark. I would say the ignition is the less likely cause as it is pretty simple and reliable. That leaves fuel and there can be quite a few causes in the fuel system.

Did you have a check-engine light? Did your shop check for codes?

Auto or manual transmission? ;)

Put up a list of what was checked and what the results were of their tests. ;)

Did you try spraying starter fluid down the throttle body? Did you check the fuses? Not visually...but with a multimeter on each one. Did you check fer voltage fer the critical systems?

When was the last time the timing belt was changed? Did you pull the timing belt cover off to see what the condition of the timing belt was? ;)

Was a compression check performed? If the numbers were way off (low) on all the cylinders...it could be a skipped tooth on the timing belt...or a broken timing belt. :D

After cranking the engine...were the plugs pulled to check fer fuel? If there was fuel on the plugs, yer ignition system isn't working. Could be the ignitor... ;)
