Air conditioning trouble shooting. Help!

I recently purchased a 1996 Corolla wagon with the 1.8 engine and the 4 speed automatic transmission with 120k miles. Enough introduction...............

I need assistance troubleshooting the air conditioning. Steering me to any tutorials, diagnostic trees, troubleshooting guides etc. would be great. I've done some searching but no answers.

I push the air conditioning button and no light comes on. Is there a light? The engine does not change speed as well.
I've checked fuses 1, 9, 11, and 31 so far.
Thanks!

Have you checked to see that there is refrigerant in the system? If that gets low, the compressor won't kick on.
Also, check the bulb in the AC switch, it might be burned out. I do know that if the system has low enough pressure to not kick on the compressor, that the light behind the AC switch will still come on, even though the system isn't working.

The only normal condition the AC light on the button will not come on is if the fan is off (fan speed slider all the way to the left).

With the engine running and AC on pop the hood and see if the AC clutch engages on the compressor (use a flash light and see if the inner pulley spins with the outer pulley on the compressor (sits below the alternator). Inspect with and without the AC on to see if there is any difference. If the clutch engages use the flash light on the sight glass in front of the condenser. It should only have bubbles when compressor is cycling on/off. Constant stream of bubbles means undercharged. No bubbles ever means overcharged.

Thanks for all the responses. After checking the relevant fuses and wiggling the air conditioner relays the AC light is now lit and the compressor turns on as well as the passenger side fan. Not sure which relay decided to work after being disturbed It's pretty cold here so I can't tell if the AC is working. Exactly where is the sight glass?
