Hey guys and gals i just purchased my toytec 3'' lift with the Alcan AAL... Now my dilema is what size tire to run... I have 2 choices and would like some opinions
1st.. 265/75/16 Nitto TerraGrapplers
2nd.. 285/75/16 Dominator Sport from Discount tire

My questions is will there be a big difference in gas mileage between the two?
Also will the 265's look ok with a 3" lift? I have a PreRunner DC if you are wondereing...
Last... I would love to see some pics with people running the 265's if possible too, I already know the 285's look sweet
Thanks
Josh

I totally disagree. The blue dub-cab you posted earlier is evidence that a 3' lift with 265/75/16s looks awesome. Hell, it looks as good or better than a lot of trucks with 33's, with better handling and mpg.
I respect your opinion.

You bring up some good points.

To each his own I guess! :D

See im thinking if i go with the 265/75/16 throw some meaty looking Nittos on there ill have a nice look and wont lose to much in performance ie acceleration braking mpg... I think its all in what tires you use on the 265's
Sorry to put a 3rd reply but I just re read your post, Meaty looking or not - if it looks like a duck and walks like a duck it's, well ?, it's a duck! A 265 no matter how meaty looking it is, its still just a 265.

Hope all of this is helpfull to you in making your decision.

Just to add to my last reply...

Most people will notice a difference in gas mileage when going to a larger tire size. One of the main reasons for this is that your speedometer will not be as accurate. Your odometer will be off too. A taller tire takes longer to rotate than a shorter one, which means it will cover a larger distance per complete rotation. If someone states taller tires killed there gas mileage find out if they recalibrated there speedometer. If not they dont realy know for sure. One inch difference in height will not make that much of a difference at all. If you loose a half mile per gallon I would be suprised.

Not to sound like a wise ass... but If you are that concerned about gas mileage, Why in the world are you going to lift your truck?

I have the DC and it is the stock ride height. I just put 265's on it and it looks great. My truck, my opinion. The 265's look proportional to the size of the wheel wells, the height of the truck and the ammount of gap between the top of the tire and the bottom of the fender.

This is just my opinion....

With a 3 inch lift the truck will look good, but not as good as it would with the 285's.
285's will give you that little extra lift as well but they will fill the wheel wells in more proportional to the height of your truck. They will be a little wider as well giving it that meater look.

From 1010 Tire.com - Tire size 265/75/16 = 31.64 Height and 10.43 width
285/75/16 = 32.83 Height and 11.22 width

The 265's look great on a stock height DC, they do and will look the small on the same truck lifted 3 inches.

Again, just my opinion, - go with the larger 285, you will like the look of it a lot better.

I totally agree that blue double cab looks sweet... See im thinking if i go with the 265/75/16 throw some meaty looking Nittos on there ill have a nice look and wont lose to much in performance ie acceleration braking mpg... I think its all in what tires you use on the 265's... ALSO i looked on tire rack.. the 285 average about 8 pounds heavier than the 265... so im sure thats a factor in the gas issue

That blue double cab is the reason I'm going to run 265's. I think that truck looks great. I'm also only going to run a 2.5" spacer with the aal. Not the entire toytec 3" setup. If I had a 6 cylinder is would be a no brainer. But my 4 cylinders of fury will like me a whole lot better only pushing 265's.

I totally appreciate the help guys (NorCal) by the way you have a sweet truck... Hey NorCal you said your milage went down with the 33's what was it before and what is it now? im getting 21-22 mpg right now average
I don't have any numbers to prove it.

I have just been eyeing my gauge and it seems like it has moved down faster than usual.

I bet the loss is about 2 to 4 MPG. :dunno:

I don't want to be rude. I am just helping you out! :D

Personally, I would never do what you are trying to do.

Second, you can run 265-75-16 WITHOUT a lift.

Here is proof...

If you are going to spend the money on the lift, get 33s.

If you have the money to lift and buy new tires, then you should have the money to pay at the pump.

check ttora's thread on 33x10.50 (roughly 265/75). there's a bunch of pics there, though many of them are 99-04's. it also depends on the wheels that you'll be using. 285's on stock wheels will need a spacer to lessen the amount of rubbing vs. aftermarket with a proper backspace.
