I'm a newbie, but I wanted to know if any of you with the Auto High Beams are having issues with the High Beams NOT coming back on when it changes to dim. Ours will work fine for a few miles and then for whatever reason after passing a car, they may not come back on for miles. I know there are some settings to change the sensitivity, but from my brief reading of the manual, it has to be changed each trip? Anyway, ours turns to dim and for miles it will stay on dim. This is even on back roads where the two lane highways are curvy and DARK. Need the brights to come on without having to turn the AUTO off. I hate to start off negative because we LOVE this new ride (platinum). Let me know if there may be a trick to get the brights back on more often. Thanks. Oh, if this needs to be moved to another type of thread, please do so.

The Auto High Beam actually works quit well for me. I was skeptical at first. The only thing I can tell you is the front facing camera is located to the right of the rear view mirror if your looking at it from inside of the car. It monitors Lane Departure and Auto High beam. Make sure the windshield is clean in front of the camera.

I had a chance to test it out finally, also. My wife and I both looked at each other and said in unison, "how does it do that?!" lol

It actually works quite well.... I was initially concerned that it might not detect an oncoming vehicles headlights 'soon enough'..... and thus cause a 'road rage' moment from having the other driver angry about having brights in his eyes.... but it detected the oncoming lights at quite a distance and worked well.... it's not bulletproof.... but worked very nicely. I like them!

Yes, mine works great for that. Just often times will not go back to brights. Not the end if the world. However, my moonroof jumped off the track after a belt on it broke. They have had it for over a week waiting on the new headliner to come in. That's aggravating. However, my dealership is taking great care of us.

My brights come back on after a car passes.... sometimes with a slight delay, sometimes pretty quickly..... a few times with a fair delay..... I wonder if it's affected by other ambient sources of lights like from a buildings security lights, etc.....

This car never ceases to amaze me..... jeesh.... I glanced down today and I have 1,700 miles on it already. I always seem to put more miles on a car when i first get one.... must be the excitement to 'get in the seat and DRIVE !" lol

Mine works quite well. Be sure you realize that the sensor is looking at lighting. So if you are driving along with your high beams on and there is ANY bright light in front of you, the low beams will switch on. I wonder if the high beams not coming back on is just an issue where other bright lights are detected?

Is the road in front of you dark, after the car in front of you passes?

I have the SAME issue with my 2016 Rav4. Seems to happen after being blinded by an oncoming driver that fails to dim or multiple oncoming vehicles with too many lights... Just when you REALLY need to see again.

Bottom line... Lighting is a BIG safety issue. Once this system fails getting your high beams back is NOT trivial or fast as the lighting lever is already in the "bright" position.

While we can complain about it here the only thing that is going to get Toyota's attention is to file enough reports here:

https://www-odi.nhtsa.dot.gov/VehicleComplaint/

I would encourage everyone who experiences a malfunction with this system to FIRST file a complaint as above and THEN copy it here.

I can see the desire, or lack of desire from both sides of this contrasting discussion, and here is why....

If you do live in a dark remote area, it does get to be a pain to repeatedly pull the HB on and off everyday and such...But!
I doubt the AutoHB will respond in the real time needed. And this would be for a small niche group. As small as it maybe, I just don't think it will work in the right timing of the sensor detecting on coming traffic.
I rather be alert and do it manually...while I can see this becoming redundant and a pain.
