Blow off valve on non turbocharged camry

Hi Guys-

Hmm well i looked into originally purchasing a full turbo kit for my 97 LE 2.2L camry. its pretty pricey so i looked into buying all parts at my own pace. is putting a blow off valve on a car that hasnt been turbo'd yet a good or bad idea?. just looking into it i guess. its a pretty easy DIY install and sounds cool.

I don't see how that would work. In a turbo charged engine the BOV relieves pressure in the intake tube when the butterfly valve in the throttle body closes. In a non-turbo engine the intake is always under vacuum, so the BOV would never activate.

no...you cant put one on, and any response to the contrary is feeding you BS. youd have to run all of the piping first JUST to find a place to mount it and even then it would not work.

i know what your getting at and if your going to really turbo your camry then do what you said, buy the parts in stages and then install them all at once, you cant install components of a turbo kit in pieces with a few exceptions...and then you have to explain to people why the hell you have an intercooler and BOV mounted....but no turbo, tuning or other upgrades. it may seem like a cool idea now...but just have that conversation once and youll be throughly embarrased.

im sorry if this sounds harsh but its just an idea you should put out of your mind. what else have you dont to your car so far? there may be better things to spend the money on first before tackling a turbo project.

haha idk im just trying to learn more and put time into the car so far ive done intake and new obx headers so i mean like i wanna do turbo but ill prolly go rip some stuff off a junk yard and make a set up for cheap that will run with the car. im young and jobless so money is tight.

this is the reason you are not going to tackle anything other then mantainace. projects liek custom turbos can NEVER be done cheap. we have had a few guys do it and they have ALL failed miserably. either their shit broke or they had little power after all the work was done.

do yourself a favor and concentrate on the jobless part. having been in your shoes i can say you will regret any money you have to think twice about spending on mods. ive wasted a lot of money on my cars and i have been very frugal. lesson learned:thumbsup:.

thats because a classic car has personality in any form AND is 9/10 NOT a DD as most of ours have been. i had my 72 El Camino as a DD for about 2 years and it was a nightmare. best thing that ever happened to that car was when i sold it to a guy who restored it for an AWESOME parts car for his shop:clap:.
