Gray, both pan gaskets are just sealer.

 

Both are JUST sealer? I'm pretty sure the lower pan has an actual gasket, seen it for sale...

I'm glad this was posted actually because I was going to do this same thing and had this same exact question.

 

just because they sell it does not mean its what comes from the factory. all toyota oil pans are gray sealer from the factory.

 

Go easy on the stuff! If you see big globs oozing out, you used way too much! Dont forget those big globs can fall off on the inside and go places they shouldnt.

soooo I just ordered this Victor Reinz oil pan gasket from AutoZone. I didn't like the idea of the cork Felpro gasket so I got this one. Are you saying I shouldn't use it?

Car is leaking oil around the oil pan area like crazy so I'm hoping this gasket will help cure that problem.

 

you can use it, but it comes sealed with gray sealant from the factory. you might pull the pan and find out its got a gasket and thats leaking. the gray leaks rarely, but I have resealed a couple 5S-FE oil pans.

 

When you remove the pan check it carefully that it is FLAT and that the bolt holes have not been sunk in toward the sealing surface from previous overtorqueing. A little work with a hammer will handle any problems.
