Hello,
I bought this 2005 Corolla Manual last month ago online locally from a lady with 124000 miles and in excellent shape and interior. Seller did it Etest and Safety. After like a month which is today exactly lol. Its showing "CHECK ENGINE" light. Last night I drove and parked back and that light was not there but just after 7 hours when I woke up and checked it showing "check engine". Its been raining for last 5-6 hours may be that created this issue? or I put some Lithium grease yesterday on accelerator springs and clutch springs under the hood may be some grease spray went off to something? if thats the issue will cleaning it with gasoline help?

How to troubleshoot? I have a digital multi-meter too if that is going to be helpful.

Thank you

I'm no expert, but I'd get the OBDII codes read first thing. It will tell you where to start looking. Autozone will read them for you, or you can buy a scanner to read them yourself whenever you want. I just bought one that is Bluetooth and talks with my phone using the torque app. Just came so I haven't used it yet but should save me some trips to autozone.

There's a good chance the code might be simply related to your gas cap. Either its bad, or didn't get tight enough the last time, or maybe if you refueled with the engine running. Something like that.

You guys are awesome

LOL, I was looking under my profile for "created threads" to check replies today but nothing was visible under my profile. So, I gave up and thought my thread got deleted somehow, but I just checked my E-mail and got notifications about topic reply :D

Get the codes read.
The fact that it took a month to light is a clue.
I have two guesses:
1. Catalyst efficiency code P0420. Took this long if the OP rarely goes on the highway and cruises at 50-70(?) mph for the test.
2. An EVAP code, which won't be tested for when the gas tank is too near full.
1. I go to highway and city everyday for round trip 16km out of which highway is 8km round trip and rest is city.
2.Yes, Last time 25 days ago when I filled the gas tank I poured gas all the way to point when it starts coming out of the tank

It runs fine? It's probably no big deal. Read the code(s) asap. It will likely be P0171 lean code for leaking intake manifold gasket.
Yes, Car is running fine. I am going today to get the codes checked and probably fix it.

The check engine light and "Maintenance Required Indicator" are very different. OP posted a picture of a CEL. This is a problem with a powertrain or emissions component.
Thats scary, how much $$ the powertrain job will cost

I doubt that the rain, or using lithium grease the way you did has anything to do with it. I'm very suspicious of any used car that has the check engine light go on soon after purchase. It often means the seller had the codes and light cleared right before it was sold. Not saying that's the case here, as that could be a coincidence. You need to have the code read using an OBD 2 scanner, so we can know what system is having an issue.

Go read the codes and post the actual code(s) here. We'll give you a good idea what the issue is. I bet it's not the p0420.
