Check Engine Light Reset

Does anyone know how to clear the "Check Engine" light? I was messing with some connectors on the driver side kick panel on my 2010 Tacoma and now the "Check Engine" light and the light with the slippery road car icon is on as well. Is there an easy way to clear these lights or do I need one of those diagnostic OBD II computer tools to clear?:headbang:

Try disconnecting the battery. Other than that you'll have to use a obd 2 scanner.

I did not have to do anything. I got in the truck this morning and both lights are now off.:lol:

If you have a Harbor Freight nearby, you can frequently find cheap OBDII readers (around $30) that can also reset the CE light. Might not be a bad idea to see what codes are stored in memory.

Using a scanner to clear the code is a band-aid IMO. The computer system will run the diagnostic checks several times while operating. If you correct/fix the issue causing the code, the computer system should reset the light on its own. If you force it to reset without resolving the issue, it will just trigger the light again after the next round of diagnostic checks are performed.

Exactly. Of course it's especially frustrating when you do fix the issue the code was referring to, clear the code, and the exact same one comes back! I'm working on one right now like that. Lots of fun.
