Cressida Security System

Wow, the second post about a Cressida alarm today!

I drive an 89 Cressida, and the battery died a couple days ago. I stuck a new one in yesterday, and registered power in the car. All the lights work; Dome, door panel, headlights. I go to crank the engine, and everything goes out. The only thing displaying power after that was the Security light indicator on the dashboard. It was flashing at a frenetic pace.

I got on the phone with my mechanic, and he told me that the security system had probably tripped itself when I put the new battery in, and that I needed to reset it. So over the next couple hours, I went about disconnecting the battery again, letting it sit for several minutes, hooking it back up, locking and unlocking the car doors from the inside and outside, but still no activity in the car except for the Security light. None of my fuses are visibly blown(although I have yet to dig into the passenger kick panel for the fuse links).

One of the stranger things about all this that has my mechanic especially confused, is that I first tried starting it back up last night. Everything died as I described. But about fifteen minutes later, electrical was back on with all the lights. I tried starting again, everything died. I've done the same process twice today, but now the electrical system is totally off and has been for the better part of four hours.

Does anyone have any idea what to do, besides towing the car over to my mechanic?

I appreciate any and all help, thanks.

I've never heard of a cressida doing this on any forum. I've removed/installed my battery many times with and without the alarm active, even without it plugged in. I've set it off and disabled it. NEVER have I ever seen what you describe. I'm guessing something in the alarm computer is broken but I can't think of what or how to fix it.
