Does it still make sense to add water to battery?

I watched a few youtube videos recently. made 7-8 years ago, on how to maintain batteries. I can typically get about 7-8 years out of my batteries. So does it still make sense to add distilled water to the battery? If so, is there a mark inside the battery to let me know the proper level it should be?

I am just afraid that to ask a battery to last more than 8 years is a bit too much. Or is it very possible?

It’s possible to get more than 8 years. I’ve gotten as much as 12, and as little as 3.

In the hole for each cell, there’s a plastic “well”. Fill it until the fluid gets slightly above the bottom of that well.

Add distilled water to just above the tops of the plates.
