Duplicate/Spare Key

I just purchased a new 2018 Camry SE with key (not keyless) start.
I would like to have a spare key made for this car.

I am receiving conflicting information from local locksmiths and the dealer regarding replacement/duplicate keys and fobs.

Dealer tells me key blade is not sold separately and I must purchase a new fob/flip key combo for $230 plus $70 programming.

Local locksmith tells me $70 for the key (no fob) plus $50 flat programming rate that covers as many keys as I purchase at one time.

Other local locksmith quoted me $30 for a key to unlock the car and $80 for a key that will unlock/start the car.

Does this car need the fob present to start it with the key or will a properly cut key start it by itself?

A properly cut key with programming will work just fine. A fob isn't necessary.

Bear in mind that the keys you buy from ebay come with bad transmitters. Bought 3 keys from three different ebay users for my parents 2016 Lexus car and you literally have to be a foot away for it to work. Other than that the programming was easy to do with techstream and starts the car with no problem.

Not to threadjack, but is there a chipped key available that isn't attached to a chunky fob? (Like 00's cars had, before it became standard to integrate the key and fob)

I have aftermarket remote start with lock/unlock, so I always carry that separate fob. It would be nice to have a plain key for ignition to lighten the key ring.

The $80.00 sounds about right. My local locksmith cut me two extras for my 2019 SE. Actually, (he said) you can use a Toyota, or a Lexus blank. I got one of each, because he ran out of Toyota blanks. As long as they have the same (correct) chip in them. I got him to reduce the price of the second key. Both work as they should, for spares (with no fob). Unlock, and start my Camry. Don

Everyone who makes keys, used 'the key cutting machines'. The $80.00 amount IS from a local locksmith. I called four of them, and the price is comparable with all (a couple being more expensive). You can get a key which will unlock/open your car door for less. But, if you want it to have the proper 'chip' so it will unlock the door AND start your car, you can't get if for much less than that figure. As I stated, I did get the locksmith to give me 'a second key' for less than 80, bringing down the average. But, a couple of the local locksmiths I talked to, would not negotiate a cheaper price on additional keys.
