Hey so this morning was cold I had to use my heater. when I turned the car off the heat was still set on and when I turn the car back on with heat, the engine maintenance required light wasn't on I was driving for about 15 minutes and I turn the AC on and then the engine maintenance required light popped back up.
Sorry you're having this problem, but thank you for documenting this issue.

it’s near the back of the engine beside the battery. Very easy to replace. Coolant valve.

Yes I would try that and see if he can pull a code. The coolant bypass valve is on the rear drivers side of the engine. I used that link invader posted to buy the part and change it myself. Took 30mins, pretty easy job. I’d confirm it’s actually the issue first though. If you don’t see any coolant leaks coming from it and if no AC doesn’t throw the the code it’s probably not the coolant bypass valve.
I finally got the valve delivered. Am I going to need any new hoses to replace it? Or is it plug and play?

"If you get a customer concern that the maintenance light wont reset, please check the message on the cluster again to make sure it reads "Engine Maintenance Required". If that is the case, please pull codes and if you see code P268115 Engine Coolant Bypass Valve Circuit Short to Battery or Open, check the coolant bypass valve for coolant inside the connector. This code may not cause the check engine light to turn on.

Ah. I do remember seeing that. What size hose or what part number so I can buy it, do you know?
You don't need any replacement hose after all.

"The Corolla one is easier due to the fact that both the upper and lower hoses are attached via clips whereas the Rav4's lower hose, on that valve, is form/pressed fit onto it. I would recommend with the Rav4, to replace the valve and hose as an assembly."

I haven't done it yet. Got busy with a new job.
Trying to do it now but I can't get the dang clips for the hoses , off how on Earth do you do it? Do they twist do I need to push something in? Lol

Retaining clip slides out to release the hose... I'll have a look at it.
Thank you. I put It all back together. I didn't want to break it and I need the car tomorrow am. All I had to do was take the dang hoses off. Ha Didn't take too long though.

I'm guessing I have to drain the coolant too?

I appreciate your time. It's saving me a bunch of $$$.

Needle nose pliers, pinch and pull clip back down on the hose I would think.
No, it's not a spring clamp like that at all.

Once we figure out the clips, you should be able to swap it out quickly with minimal coolant leakage... Rinse it off, bleed coolant, check level. You could also drain coolant first if you prefer.

I can see the white plastic retainer which can be released and slid out sideways on the floating fitting... I'll have a better look tonight in the connector as well, after rermoving wipers and cowl vent.

Okay thank you. I can see on the replacement part; it seems like it has a little twist to get it off once it's unclipped. Just gotta figure out where it's clipped in at it's a pain to see with the limited amount of space.

You did remove both wipers and the plastic cowl vent for access?

Wipers' retaing nut plastic cover is easily popped up with small flat screwdriver. Cowl vent can then be raised in front after removing black retainer clips which are released by lifting center of clips.

No I didn't. I was looking at that.
Please tell me you didn't attempt to do it without removing your wipers and lifting the cowl vent...
I didn't remove it. I was looking at it though. I can take 1 cover off and I should be able to have more access. I actually found a YouTube video on replacing it. He said to take this 1 piece of and it's easier. But it would probably be even better to take that all off. Even without taking any of that stuff off I was able to unbolt it just couldn't get the hoses off because I didn't know how the clamps came off so I bolted it back on.
