Fog Lights Stopped Working - UPDATED

Hi guys,
A while back I installed factory-style fog lights into my 2002 Corolla CE and they worked perfectly for months. Now, I did a retrofit of the OEM US automatic headlight system in my car and the fog lights won't turn on with the automatic system or with the light switch.

Any ideas as to why? Was there a wire I made a mistake with?

Updated question below. :)

In order to install the retrofit, I had to intercept the red/black wire at IB2 and connect it directly into the DRL relay. I was wondering if it would be a good idea to have a 3-way connection between the two old red/black wires and the new one from the automatic DRL relay, or maybe a better idea would be the red/blue one or the red one connecting to the lights.

Taking fog lights out of consideration, do your main headlights and taillights come on normally?

Do you have the fog stalk?

Oh, yours is a 2002. Looks like there have been slight wiring differences between 1998-2000 and 2001-02. Once I know more about the 2002 wiring I might be able to come up with something.

Fish, if you're reading, please chime in. I know you have factory fogs - if you still have your S. (He has a US DRL brain from a 1999.)

Yes, every other light comes on perfectly fine. Just not the fog lights, whether I turn them on with the stalk or leave the fog part on andd try with the sensor.

Do you have the fog stalk?
I do and they worked perfectly fine up until the retrofit.

Looking at the diagram, what I did was wire the H-ON wire directly to IB2 (because the IH1 spot is take by the windshield washer fluid sensor), but in doing so I'm thinking maybe that whole top H part got cut off from the circuit. The H wire is still connected to 1E-4, but maybe it gets cut off after that?

I tried playing around with all the red/white wiring at 1E area and at one point I got the fog lights to work, but they would turn on and off when the door was opened and closed, so that wasn't exactly ideal. :gaah:

Yup - still have my Corolla S, thing just keeps trucking.

I'll have to look at the schematics more closely to see where the possible break might be.

Most likely case is that by jumping the wiring from connector to connector, might have broken a complementary circuit in the process. Much of the circuit is incorporated into the various relays and junction blocks - I wouldn't be surprised that one of those circuits got cut in the process and now the relay is not getting any juice.

I don't think the H-ON line is your problem, since the retrofit is otherwise successful. All that's left is the fog light (only) not getting power.

Check the FOG fuse (behind the little drawer), then do a quick test. Turn on headlight, do not turn on high beam (fog lights turn off when you go high), then grab the fog switch on the stalk and slowly move it to on position. Listen for the click as fog light relay energizes.

I've checked the fog fuse and relay and they're both good, I've also tried slowly turning the switch and there is no clicking noise.

Check the headlight fuses in the big relay box in the engine bay.
I've done that too...

But like I said earlier, I'm thinking maybe something went wrong in the area around the H wire, because if you look where H-ON connects to, it kind of cuts out part of H.

Fishexpo101,

Is your DRL relay the same as it would be on a 2000? My Corolla is a 2002, but the relay I installed is from a 2000 and the 2000s didn't have fog lights, so I'm beginning to wonder if this is an issue.

And Buurin,
You did a front-end conversion, so how did the wiring of your fog lamps go on the inside?

I needed to run new wires for the fogs, so I pretty much just wired it like the diagram above. DRL relay played no part in my fogs wiring.

I packed the wires into the main wire harness, running them through two vacant positions at IB2, then stuffed a second relay block into the area to house my fog and HIDbeam relays.

Well in case you're still interested, I figured it out...

Today I was playing around with it some more and I decided to change the H-ON wire around during and I ended up burning the relay... So now I have no headlights and the rest of the lights flash on and off when I start the car. I took the relay out and I just won't drive at night.

So I was looking online for a new relay and came across exactly what I thought: the 01-02 model uses a different relay with a dedicated fog wire. It's part number 82810-AB040 as opposed to the 82810-AB031 I got from you. I'm not blaming you, I understand you didn't know, just like I didn't know, so since I burned my relay and I need a new one anyway, I ordered the right one instead.
