Is there still a way to get the trip computer that displays mpg and all that stuff?

Here is what I would recommend you do:
  1. Remove your current clock assembly
    • Verify it has part no. label 83910-33060 on it
    • Verify it has a 14-pin wiring harness connector on it
      • Not all of the 14-pin connectors have wiring in it
    • See if there is a 24-pin wiring harness connector on the same harness assembly that is not connected to anything
If you have an unused 24-pin wiring harness connector on the same harness that has your currently used 14-pin connector for your current clock, then a clock assembly from any 2002-2005 Camry XLE model (which will be part number 83910-33070) should work on that open 24-pin wiring harness connector, and I would think you will get all the data that a normal XLE would have on it. Ebay has part no. 83910-33070 for about $25 w/o shipping. Otherwise, if you can pull one from a salvage yard, that would be another option.

I can tell you that I am not going to pull my clock assembly out of my 2003 Camry XLE to see if I have an unused 14-pin connector for a plain clock assembly, but if you want to go this route, you should see if you have that 24-pin connector behind your current clock.

If you don't have an unused 24-pin connector behind your current clock, I don't know of a way to get a 2002-2005 Camry XLE clock unit with instananeous & average MPG and other features to work on your LE model.

Would love to do this mod on my '04 LE!

Checking p/n 83910-33070, it shows as clock for base Camry, and not XLE trip computer. None on ebay, anyway, that I could find. Will keep searching and advise further if I find one.

Are you sure? Note the 24-pin connector on the back of this unit (from ebay):

Also, ToyoDIY.com lists the 83910-33060 for base Camry (LE) and the 83910-33070 for the XLE Camry. ToyoDIY.com is traditionally very accurate.

Yes, that is an excellent point. I was thinking about this driving into work this morning - I'm using the steering wheel pod to change the display a lot, then realized this is the only way there is to change that display, then realized you would require that in order to use this trip computer feature.

This pod is on the left side of the steering wheel (opposite the cruise control stalk). I would assume your steering wheel has a blank cover where this trip computer control pod would be. You could remove that blank cover and see if there is an unused wiring harness connector in there also. If so, it may be possible to also get this steering wheel trip computer control pod. I didn't see one on ebay, but I would think salvage yards would have them. This is the part & part number you would be looking for:

Wow this is great information for Gen 5 owners.

I used to have a Camry LE and I didn't even know the XLE models had a trip computer feature. It seemed counter intuitive to me that its located up by the clock, as opposed to inside the instrument cluster like the Lexus ES (and most other cars).

It is quite possible that the cars are prewired, as were the fog lights.

It looks like for a 2002-2004 you will need the following parts. This is assuming you are prewired:

Side cover for steering wheel surround - 82821-06030

Steering column/steering wheel cover -
45186-06070-B1 DK.CHARCOAL, TRIM1 or
45186-06070-E4 SANDAL WOOD, TRIM4

Steering Wheel Switch - 84244-06010

Steering Wheel Switch Screws - 90159-50199 x2

Clock Assembly - 83910-33070

For 2005-2006 Models

Side cover for steering wheel surround Already in place if car is equipped with steering wheel radio controls.

Steering column/steering wheel cover -
45186-0C020-B0 DK.CHARCOAL, TRIM9 or
45186-0C020-E2 SANDAL WOOD, TRIM4

Steering Wheel Switch (Includes both switches. The needed switch is the RH switch but it can't be purchased individually) -
84250-06020-B0 DK.CHARCOAL, TRIM9
84250-06020-E0 SANDAL WOOD, TRIM4

Steering Wheel Switch Screws - 90080-15079 x2

i deleted my post before you replied but i think i may have spoken too early

from my searches, it seems like the 2005-2006 camry models have the switch sitting flush with the wheel like so

Image

while the 2002-2004 camry wheels have the switch hanging off the side like so:

so correct me if i'm wrong here, 2002-2004 models wouldn't need a new steering wheel cover on the front right?
