Asking if it's even "possible" to disable or turn off lights from coming on automatically at night? Officer stopped me other night said I was driving without lights on. Then I refused doing roadside sobriety test because I've had Multiple Sclerosis 20 yrs & use cane, poor balance, speech problems but officer didn't believe me & arrested me dui. I wasn't even drinking! Trying to prove lights can't be easily disabled now for court.

So wait...your car headlights were on but the officer pulled you because you were driving with them off?

Not sure but my mom's 2001 Camry LE I4 J-Vin has auto headlights. DRL will be on and a sensor on the dash will force the headlights to go on. Can't turn them off. There are ways to disable DRL but not worth the trouble.

Hey I have one of these, and I've battled with the DRL system and the automatic headlights system, in the process of trying to install an HID projector system into the car.

First of all, it's really easy to disable the DRL's: It's a little two wire, wiring harness plug, just in front of the fire-wall on the passenger side, under the hood. Unplug it, and the DRL's are disabled, everything else works normally.

Second part is a bit tricky, because I'm not sure if all Solara's have automatic headlight activation. Mine has it, the sensor is on the top of the passenger side of the dash, just behind the windshield. I wasn't able to find any easy way to disable this system, other than defeating the dash sensor. (Never bothered to try, because it was ok with me if the lights came on at night, or they will go off when I'm parked, and my parking brake is activated... even a little bit)

Thanks for responses! I didn?t think there was an easy way or switch that keeps headlights from coming on automatically at dusk. I KNOW I had my lights on, but this officer said they weren't. Now I have to prove they couldn't have been off like officer said. Maybe I can get statement for court from Toyota stating that...

Basically it is now a they said to what you said.

I'm surprised that an officer pulled you over for this and it's getting more than simply a 'slap on the wrist'...sounds like something else is going on.

Thank you very much...I couldn't find my manual. I can use this as evidence. If the officer lied about headlights being off judge may think he lied about me driving on other side of road some too! My slurred speech & unsteadiness are all due to my multiple sclerosis. Guess since I live in Colorado he thought I was on marijuana or something else...

The Solara has three headlight positions: OFF (which is auto), parking/tail lights, and ON.

In the OFF position, the headlights will still automatically come on. There's no easy way to disable that, unless you unplug the light sensor from the dashboard.

As for the police case, you'd need more of a medical assessment to prove your condition, than to prove to them the lights were functioning or not. I assume though that you've checked that all the bulbs were functioning at the time, correct?
