Well, other than the myriad of issues that I was able to have rectified under warranty, my Highlander is now experiencing it's THIRD power door lock actuator failure since the warranty has expired.
A complete power door lock actuator repair at a Toyota dealer is $500. Screw that..... so, I bought an OEM door actuator online for my failed front driver's door and rear passenger door at a $125 savings per part, and conducted the repair myself. So, instead of a $1000 bill, I knocked it down to about $500.
Well, jeepers...... not more than a month has elapsed since the last power door lock actuator malfunction and NOW my front passenger door has completely failed to operate.
So....Another $250 part and about an hour of my time to fix it. That makes a total of 3 power door lock actuators out of 4 that have failed..... all before 55K miles.
Reliability? Bwahahaha.....
I wonder when the 4th one will go? If I had the dealer replace all 4 I would have been looking at $2,000. Doing it myself has cut that in half, but I have lost all faith in the Toyota hype.
I am going to replace the newly failed power door lock actuator and figure I will most likely have to replace the last one at some point.
After that? Well, if the new ones fail within the next year again..... then I think I am done with Toyota and will sell it and look for an alternative. That would be a shame, as there is a lot to like about the vehicle, but there is also a lot to NOT like.
