I have a 91 Camry but can't figure out whether it's a Deluxe or a LE, is there a way to find out without paying someone to run the vin? I have power windows, power locks, power steering, sunroof, cruise control, 4 cyc, and tilting steering, Can anyone tell base from the information I provided? and no it doesn't say anything on the back just the camry emblem. Thanks in advance

That sounds like an LE trim...unless somebody grabbed all the 'optional' thing for a deluxe/DX.

I have a 90 DX and mine doesnt have a sun roof, but that doesnt mean shit cause i have seen DX's with sunroofs. Check the title, it should say Camry DX or Camry LE.

If it has no badge on it, then it may just be a souped up base model (wierd sounding) but possible, either that or the emblem found its way off the car.

Is all that features available as a option on the DX? And aside from that is there any difference between the LE and the DX? do they have the same powertrain? any way you can tell by the paint coz I noticed some of the camry I see have black bumpers but different body color while mine is just solid white bumper and body

In '91, color keyed bumpers/mirrors was optional on the DX.

The easiest way to tell is the interior fabric:

Base: All vinyl doors, vinyl backed seats

DX: Upper fabric door trim, cloth seats

LE: Upper and lower door fabric trim, velour cloth seats

Each trim also has different carpet and a few other distinguishing features that were not optional extras... but I don't feel like listing them at the moment.

PS. I've actually owned a base, DX and an LE all '89 or '90 model years.

I believe that LE models also have pwr mirrors, Tachometer/speedometer gauge combo, power radio antenna, push button climate control and chrome door handles in the interior. All of these are not available on DX or lesser model camrys. My DX has all other options (including folding rear seat) except for sunroof and LE style cloth seats. I think the DX has better looking fabric anyway ;).

Yea my DX has manual mirrors, the HUGE fuel guage tach (soon to be gone thanks to Charlie) and gray handles in the interrior. I have cloth seats and the center armrest, as well as the clock (which was extra) and even the mudflaps?

Still theres not much difference between a loaded DX and an LE you just have to examine the vin.
Someone on here will tell you what it is based on the VIN

I had a 1988 Camry LE. It didn't have air bags like my 2000 LE, but it had nicer more comfortable seats with more adjustments and the details were just nicer in comparsion to the 2000 LE, which makes it feel cheap.

The gen2 LE also had lighted vanity mirrors in the sun visor.

Cars in general do get better and better with the years and more content is added that wasn't there before (more safety equipment, better sound systems, etc..), but when little details get deleted and the previous model had it, you miss it.

I bought a 2009 RAV4 Limited couple of months ago. It's loaded with heated leather seats, Bluetooth, Auto Climate Control, Smart Key, etc...but it doesn't have chrome inside door handles, the sun visors are vinyl covered and it doesn't have a glove box light!

I agree with that 110%.
I really loved my 2008 base-model Tacoma 4x4 (just turned it in, it was a short-term lease). It was really base, but it was nice & solid, and very comfortable to drive. However, I was always missing the pw/pl, and most of all the delay wipers that my '91 Camry has.

Now on a more apples-to-apples comparison, my 20 yr. old truck vs. the Taco was a world of difference, since they are both equally (un)equipped.

BTW: Thanks for the clarification on that Charlie. ;)

My 87 LE doesn't have lights on the sun visors but the 88 Le's have them. Question,on what trim level was a sunroof and spoiler optional and what years ?

I'm seeing a few 2nd gens rolling around with what looks to be a stock spoiler so i think it was an option !

Greetings from the Great North. I'm currently working on the front doors of an '89 Camry LE. I had to remove the inner door panels to remove ice buildup on the locks. Due to lack of a clip puller, I broke several of those stupid clips that hold the panels on. I see a set (though expensive) for sale on eBay, though they're off an '89 DLX. I read above that the deluxe doesn't have the upholstered door panels, but is the panel shaped the same, such that this set of clips is the same? I appreciate your help as I try to tackle these issues.

Also, it snowed 3' here since this morning, and it's still coming down. I wish i had AllTrac...

You have no idea how much it bothers me my car doesn't have AllTrac. If it did, I'd drive it til the end of time! Too bad there's not a way to convert.

Also, do any of you know if there's a better source for these parts than eScalpers? I don't have a part #, and none of the usual places seem to have clips this old, at least not for toyotas.

Thanks for your help Charlie!

In that case, I wished I had 'an AllTrac' again today... all that snow was nice and polished smooth.
Anyway, like I said, I'm sure AllTrac and sunroof are the only options my Camry wasn't built with. Keeping all the other options working is the trick... After rereading this thread, I'm really glad I do have the LE over the other two models. I'm addicted to some of the exclusive amenities, like the upholstery. I've never sat in more comfortable seats! (my '86 Fiero GT [summer car] is comfy too, but the hard racing-style seats can get a bit rough on real long trips). When Grandma sold me the old camry, she bought a new ('02 I think) Camry. The interior is nothing like that of mine.
