Sounds like the EVAP/ PURGE system

 

What you're hearing are normal Fuel Evaporation Leakage Checks...The noise is caused by the vacuum pump inside the fuel evaporation leakage check module.

 

It even mentions it in the rav4 owners manual, that's how I found out.. I'd assume the corolla manual is the same?

I appreciate all of the responses, sorry for taking a few days to get back here. I'm sure the evap system is what it is. Glad to hear that it's in the manual. There is so much info in the manual.

 

Oh man i just heard the exact same noise 30 mins ago and it was driving me nuts. Pinpointed it in the LH rear, under the car. Went to get a flashlight and then the noise was gone. Glad i found this post with a video and a few other posts. I was freaking out lol.

 

Totally normal. Evap system running a vacuum check.

 

As others have already commented, it is normal. At Toyota, we call it a key off pump.

Twice now my wife and I have noticed a humming noise from under the rear of our 21 Corolla XSE. It sounds like a fuel pump running. Car has always been off when when we notice this. Here's a vid.

This is not a reply but I thank you for telling us this. My car, a Toyota CH R, does the same thing. Is it dangerous? Is it a problem that I need to take to Toyota?

OP hear. In addition to my wife's '21 Corolla, my 2023 Tacoma TRD Offroad also makes this noise.

I come out to the garage in the evening for something and once in awhile my Taco and the wife's Corolla are having a conversation. I usually apologize for interrupting and leave.

 

My brother and I just heard this coming from our mothers car. Is this a bad sign or something considered worrisome??
