Hey everyone :D

I've been creeping around this forum for a month or so now and decided I'd actually introduce myself :p
Just over a month ago I picked up a '98 AE101 :)
The car belonged to my great grandfather and he passed away and it found its way to me, fortunately, being driven by an old man since brand new she's in absolutely mint condition, and she only just hit 32,000kms this morning (oh yeah, I'm in Australia :p So that's around 20k miles I beleive)

So far only one things broken, and that was the headliner which sagged and spat out an amazing amount of dead yellow foam.. So I pulled it out and recovered it, looks brand new :)

I'll work on getting some photos ! :D

Nice ride! Low k's always an extra win! I replaced my headlining with a new board i got from from the wreckers - just poped a few bolts and put it in. Mine started to sag once the car was well over 100,000km:thumbsup:

Big question what are your plans??:confused: As u can see I've added a few JDM mods over time.

yeah the fact that it was barely driven the last 14 years, means she's smooth as hell and the engine sounds so healthy :D

Mine sagged totally, ill put a pic up at some point, but i reused the old board to spend as little as possible :p
spent many afternoons with my friend scrubbing off the dirty old adhesive and foam..

She was garaged all her previous life, and it sagged after sitting in the driveway in the sun for a week, so i think it was a shock for it :p

Plans ! well! That's what I'm here for :p I have none.
Apart from a wax, and a new stereo/speakers :p

also; I posted a bunch of pictures over in the 7th gen pics thread, check them out! :D

Welcome! Wow, those are some extremely low kms. The lowest km 7th Gen I've seen for sale here was 16,000km about a year ago which was owned by an old lady who only ever drove it to the supermarket and back once a week, but yours comes a close second :D. I saw your pics in the photo thread and it looks amazingly looked after. Hold onto that one :thumbsup:

Yeah I'm pretty stoked! Damn I thought shed be the lowest ;)
Honestly in person it looks brand new :p Garaged 24/7 and driven to church and the shops once a week by my great grandfather :p he was always a man to take care of his cars, this one was no exception :)
Amazingly, he'd even recorded every single time he'd filled it up since 1998, revealed shed never been under half a tank ! It was also depressing watching the fuel prices go up :(

Yeah, it's a keeper alright !

Only one concern, fuel economy seems to be pretty rubbish so far

First things I'll be doing is getting it serviced fully to keep you going. Parts deteriorate over time. I got myself my 1996 conquest 1.8 ae102r with 63,000km genuine km's with full service history and it smooth as like it was just out the factory.

Service I did:
* Brake Fluid
* Clutch Fluid
* Engine Oil
* Transmission Oil
* Air Filter
* Oil Filter
* Petrol Filter
* Spark Plugs
* Timing Belt, tensioner
* Cam, crank seals
* Water pump
* New radiator and coolant (these when properly maintained last 8-10yrs)
* Engine mounts (showed signs of wear, minor cracks)
* Thermostat
* Hoses
* Some gaskets

I did a full on service, car is 16yrs old rubber deteriorates. I'm serious about my car and want it to last (preventative maintenance), I've done alot of things so it should last for many years to come.

Good luck with the car, there awesome and have some good torque.

Yeah I'm building up a list now.. :p Nothing needs replacing as yet but I like being on top of things early. (Preventative maintenance is my thing also :p )

Where does everyone get their parts? I live in australia and I'm trying to find a decent online site so I can get some servicing done

I get my stuff from toyota spare parts, I find it better to spend the extra and getting genuine oem Japanese parts not some Chinese junk that fail prematurely.

Your first priority will be renewing all the fluids :)

EDIT:
I'm from Sydney and find most non-requested parts come from Melbourne's warehouse so you should get parts nice and quick.

Ahhh righto :) Have they got a website?
If they're based in melbourne thats pretty sweet
Yeah I'd deffs go for the OEM stuff, I wouldn't dare put cheap crap in the car :p

The day before I picked up the car (from family in QLD) it'd been serviced at the dealer, I checked all the fluids and they were perfect and fresh, and they held up fine on the trip back to the ACT (don't worry, I'm one of the drivers here that aren't terrible ;) ).

So I won't have to change them for a little while :)

Went out and got the Service Manual, which has proved pretty useful

Unless you're after factory-fresh stuff I'd just hit up the wreckers, plenty of 101s/102s were sold and the build quality is good so any decent Jap wrecker should keep parts in stock. If you're buying stuff off Toyota bear in mind that since even the newest 10x is 15 years old Toyota Aus will quite likely have stopped stocking parts in the country and they'll have to special-order them from Japan (I had this issue with the bonnet seals - the headlight/grille one had to come from Japan and the radiator one is no longer in production), in which case it can actually be cheaper going through NZ or someone like Amayama who can get parts direct from Japan for a lot cheaper than what Toyota Aus will mark-up (I got a brand-spanking new fresh-out-of-the-mould FXGT front lip extension for $150 posted to my door from Amayama).
