Infotainment system crashing and other issues

I thought that my audio setting reset issue was fixed by an Entune software update. Nope. If fact, I've had two system crashes where the whole unit reboots, and all the settings reset. I'm also getting USB issues where the system is intermittently not powering the USB plug (no charging or music). The infotainment system is so seriously faulty that it brings down my entire opinion of the HL (like I would consider trading it in). Anyone else?

I have found that if I don't let the screens change, the system locks up and reboots. Letting it change from the first screen to the next image prior to putting it in gear seems to have stopped the rebooting issue, at least for me.

Got the latest Entune update under warranty at the 10k service. Supposedly addresses system crashes. Didn't keep the vehicle long enough to see if it fixed the audio settings reset issue. I traded for a 15 Sequoia. So far the Sequoia Entune is glitch free.

I paid invoice for the HL, approximately 41k. Traded for 34k. Although my Ford dealer offered me 35k to trade for a $50k Explorer Sport. The Ford had a cheap craptastic interior. Might have kept the HL if the Limited trim was available with second row bench. With the captain chairs and the worthless third row, my HL was a 4 passenger SUV.

Just curious why you didn't go for the Sequoia in the first place? Did you get the HL and realize you needed a ton more space? It just seems like such a massive step up in terms of both price and size.

"King of the Road"? Maybe for fuel consumption to power ratio. In Sequoia's class, Tahoe and Suburban are very strong contenders, especially now that GM's main purpose in life is no longer to lead in worldwide volume production, quality be damned. Toyota cannot even claim volune leader any more (though they would love to), having recently been surpassed by VW as production volume leader worldwide.

These days Toyota and Honda are playing the catch-up that defined US automakers ten and twenty years ago, from a quality and product innovation standpoint. In my opinion, people who buy Toyota today based upon quality metrics from 10 years ago are uninformed, same as people that judge Korean (Hyundai) and Chinese (Volvo) auto ventures from 10-15 year old reputations.

I have a 2014 Highlander Limited and my infotainment system has locked up and rebooted many times. I took it to the dealership a few months ago and they were not able to replicate (of course) and hadn't had anyone else complain about the issues. They told me to keep a log of exactly when it occurred it future. I've done this and need to take it back to the dealership. Mine has happened during many different activities; mostly listening to audio on Bluetooth or USB plugged in, but has also happened in the middle of a phone call or radio. Also more and more I'm having issues when I start the vehicle with the Audio Player (iPhone) disconnecting. So then I have to pull over the car and get the Bluetooth set up again. It's SO frustrating!

My system reboots about once a week and it's always when I'm sitting at a stoplight at an intersection. Makes no sense. And for a few months, the radio stayed on my settings, only went back to factory settings about once every three weeks or more, now it's back to doing it almost daily, no rhyme or reason. I'm so fed up! This is a bug in the software that should be corrected, but frankly, I don't think Toyota cares. And there's too many clueless car owners that don't set their stereos and so there's not enough complaints. My dealer told me shortly after I purchased the vehicle that he'd "not heard about this before". Please.

if you don't have the Nav, with the redundant dash readout of the MPG functions, having Techstrem, I find it less of an issue if needing to swap out the HeadUnit. All steering functions are adapted, so you really just lose the few options that once set you really don't change, like the signal clicks, time for dimming lights etc.

Aftermarket's usually adapt better, and they will make the stock system sound better. Besides other options different players offer from video to navigation, CarPlay or Driod, inputs, etc

I just took my first long trip in my 15 HL XLE and I also had audio issues. Bluetooth sound is almost non-existent. Twice the USB plug wouldn't charge my phone and therefore wouldn't see the ipod option (iPhone 6). On the trip back it wouldn't connect with the Bluetooth at all, so I had no phone connected. I restarted the phone and the car.... Went into the Bluetooth settings and it sees the phone, paired with it but still showed no phone connected. I also have seen my screen hang. Also it's come up without any audio at all (no radio that was just playing too). I took a trip to Plattsburgh NY and had no HD Weather the entire time I was there. How to they even sell these up there if there are functions that don't work!!!

Those sound like defective issues. I too have no text to voice and the BT I have to disconnect and reconnect and maybe Google maps will voice over the system, only worked when we first got the car and then switched phones, and have heard it once in 50times since. I think the HU are made by Pioneer as I remember seeing the label on it...but I cant remember for sure. (looking at a lot of HU lately).

I also hate the screen glare. I got the front tints darker than legal and they don't really help. I thought they would, but nope! *not as much as I thought. 8 out of 10 the backup cam is useless in the day unless I cup may hand over the light.

I like the OEM look so I'm real hesitant of changing it out, but!

What does it really give me?
1. A repeat of the MPG on the main dash in nice looking graphics with more detail? big deal!
2. Control of changing some settings I'm not gonna mess with, AND can do so with either a laptop or a aftermarket plugin controller?
I think that's it!

The things like Text to voice would be the only unique feature I dont see on aftermarket units, BUT, it doesn't work! Do I deal with a dealership to try and fix it, maybe for temp time until its gone again?

We'll see what happens.

The HL infotainment is so glitchy. I figured these issues would have been fixed for 15 models. I traded my HL for a Sequoia. No issues with the Sequoia infotainment and no glare issues.

The software upgrade fixed the Entune crashing problems in our 2014 4Runner, and so far--9 months--we haven't had a single glitch in our 2015 HLP (fingers crossed).

I have had the same problem here with a 2014 HL Limited. The system keeps rebooting at random times. On a long trip recently (9 hours), it rebooted about 15 times. I cannot rely on the navigation any longer because of the frequent reboots. As I was driving alone, it was difficult to take video of the constant reboots to "prove" to the dealership that there is a serious problem with this system. Based on my experience, this is totally useless. I know what the dealership will say: cant't replicate it, so too bad. Thanks Toyota for developing a gem of a system!

Folks with issues of the infotainment system should demand the dealership to update the software. T-SB-0160-14 address the reboot issues. The same T-SB address the 4Runner, Sequoia, Tacoma and Tundra. Like many, my system was rebooting or freezing constantly. It was bad up to the point that the freezing occurred daily. It was frustrating and the dealership I bought my vehicle hesitated at first but I gave them the printed out T-SB I pulled from ALL DATA. I have no issue since the software update about a month ago.
