What do you think is the best alternator to replace the one that came with my 05 Taco? At 50K miles, I need a new one.

Dollars? American?? For an alternator??? That's profane. :thumbdown

As for make, Denso is good stuff. A lot of taco is Delphi, which is relative crap. Get a NAPA rebuilt alternator with a lifetime warranty. The last couple I bought (for chebbies) were $150 or so.

if you want my honest opinion, the best alternator to replace it with is one from Toyota. i see the difference between OEM and aftermarket replacement parts on a daily basis, and there *IS* a difference.

i'd also like to know, why do you need an alternator at 50K miles?

EDIT: here's a place you can get a much better deal on an alternator from Toyota: http://www.trademotion.com/partloca...id=840&chapter=APM802&appSectionid=4&make=34&model=Tacoma&year=2006&catalogid=1

i have personally purchased MANY parts from Conicelli, and they're awesome to deal with.

i've got over 70K, no problems yet. this is the first i've heard of the alternator taking a dive this quickly in our trucks.

Just stay as far away as possible from the units (alt or starters) sold by AutoZone.
Lifetime warranty, but after changing them yourself several times, you'll offer to commit suicide.

When the starter on my '94 Suzuki went out, I bought an AC/Delco from O'Reilly's.
Much cheaper than the OEM, and never had any issues with it.

Twenty years ago, you could plan on an Alt, starter, or water pump going out at 70k +/- 5k miles on any GM or Ford. Like clockwork. Obviously some would last longer, some a lot less. I don't have enough firsthand knowledge to know if that's changed much, but it appears that they may be lasting a bit longer these days, but failure at any mileage above 60k doesn't surprise me, and I wouldn't be shocked by 50k or 120k.

Oddly enough, when I had to replace the starter on a '92 Saturn, the price of the AC/Delco installed by the Saturn svc dept was less than the part price alone of the trash sold by AutoZone (that I priced just for comparison).
