I use synthetic oil in my 08 Highlander and have been doing my oil changes at 5k with Walmart Super Tech oil since new (45K current mileage with 0 problems). What oil filters do you guys use? Fram CH9972 is supposed to be the same as Toyota 04152-YZZA which is the OEM number. I have used Fram XG9972 in the past which is supposed to be good up until 15K but under the circumstances and the extra price I was wondering if it is a waste of money and overkill.

Since the specs for the two are the same, XG is a waste of money.
I had a 94 Grand Cherokee that I used mostly the Walmart dino oil and cheapest filters with 225k miles before trading it in because of rust hole in floor.
Before trading it in, I checked the compression of all cylinders. All still within factory specs.
As long as you do regular oil changes, you should be good.

I would stick with the factory filters.
They are CHEAP.

I also saw a thread on here that claimed Toyota denied a claim after the engine seized and there was an aftermarket filter.

Since I saw that, I will ONLY use factory filters.
They are cheap easy to get local and online.
I also saw a filter comparison and the OEM filter had like almost double the filter surface area with it's design vs any aftermarkets.

But oil and filters are THE politics for cars. HAHAHA EVERYONE has ideas they will cling to until death, and will hotly debate it for their lifetime! :) hahaha

Mobile 1 0w-30 oil and OEM toyota filters, every 5k. Fairly cheap ($20-25 per 5qts and $4.20 for the filter at my dealer)...no issues

I saw the same thing, something about the filter collapsing and clogging all oil flow

I don't trust the dealer I buy my own 0w20 Toyota oil and filter and do it myself. I may be stupid for it but they can keep their free maint plan some of those oil change jockeys just don't give a darn about your vehicle. I've done a lot of research on the Toyota oil and it is a really robust formula by Mobil. I agree the Toyota filters are priced reasonably so why not just use them?
