Information I've gained

1. Camshafts that are aftermarket direct fit, are not available.. so you can either get intake cams out of a 2mzfe, and exhaust cams from a 3mz-fe, or get all 8 camshafts reground
2. Forged Rods for the 1mzfe are hard to find, and the best cost effective way to do this is to get 22R eagle rods, and have them machined. you can buy Pauter Rods, but they are over $1000.00 for a set. So 22R rods are about $500-$600.00 cheaper, and machining will be cheap for them as well since they are only shaving a small amount off
3. Toyota 22R rods are an exact fit for the 1MZ but will need to have 0.136" machined from each side of the bearing surfaces to fit. An oil groove will need to be cut into the side of the crank bearing end, and an oil hole drilled into the same end to make them really identical. The crankshaft will also need to be machined to fit the 1mz bearings, as the bearing locators are on opposite sides as the 22r bearings

special thanks to camrtm3 who gave me the information about the Eagle Rods, and TRD4Life for the information about the camshafts

Sweet! What are your plans beyond that? All motor build? Or forced?

Transmission built? What are your goals? I've still got those magnecor wires if you're interested! I'll let em go for cheap as I need 'em gone.

#4 ·
I actually havent put much thought into the transmission to be honest. I think that I probably should look into that at some point considering its what transfers the engine power to the wheels, lol.

As far as the engine goes, I'm planning on doing forced induction, twin-charged setup. Using an MP90 supercharger.. havent figured out what turbo I want to use though. I hear that twin charging with turbo/super is the best way to do forced induction because you dont have any turbo lag since the supercharger is instant boost.

I am interested in those wires, how much, and whats your paypal

If you're using the E153, I think it'll be plenty powerful enough to hold up for a while.

Asking $80 shipped for the wires. PM me if interested.

Really hope you keep up with regular updates. I'm in the collecting stage for my 92', but, I'm going with a 3VZ. I think my parts list is almost the same. Although I'm only planning on a single turbo and not pushing as much HP as I think you're planning on. Always nice to see someone build their own engine rather than have it built for them.

i am going to keep everyone updated on each stage I go, simply because there isn't much information available online for these builds AT ALL.

I spent the last month researching and talking with people to find what is the most cost effective way of building a 1mzfe engine

and i haven't received all of my parts yet. I'm still waiting for my rods, pistons, and injectors to come in. Should have all the parts within a month. The engine kit actually takes 3 weeks to get made and sent out from what the fellow on the phone tells me

I actually have another suggestion: Run VVT-i heads and hardware (pretty much easy to get) and have not only better cams then the standard 1MZ, have the ability for VVT to alter the cam profiles. you can buy a CAMCON to adjust it on the fly. The heads also dont have a EGR so there's another plus. figured i'd put this out here.

Engine swap time!

ASG, It was actually suggested to me to use the intake camshafts from the 2mz-FE (2) and the exhaust Cams from the 3mz-fe (2). Use the 2mz-fe camshafts because they have an insane profile, and there is no need to re-grind them. More lift than the 3mzfe. This is what I'm told by a guy who builds 1mz/3mz engines
take a quick gander at this thread.
http://www.toyotanation.com/forum/1...089-3vz-1mz-2jz-camshaft-duration-valve-diameter-valve-lift-specifications.html

you cant run a supercharger on your engine ?
I remember Adam saying at the meet something about how the cams are designed on the 2MZ, it doesnt work well.

Yes, but using just the 3MZ exhaust cams is diff then using the entire heads is what I meant.

I currently have the 2MZ in my car, lol. So I got the intake cams if I wanted them. And my got, the 2MZ intake cam is insane. I can;t run the damn SC with this engine.....ugh.

I;m building my old 1MZ. Just taking forever. No time and no $.

The boost was 50% higher then the pully is meant to be. Thats during the low RPM's. Then the boost goes down at higher RPM's. The exact opposite of what it should be.

sounds like a helluva build going on man! cant wait to see more!

i whish i had a bunch of money like that to blow on my camry! it would be a nice 2jzgte swap

i'm getting ready to install my holset turbo on my bone stock 1mz this winter!

good luck with your build!

Ti springs

You don't want titanium valve springs for that motor - titanium is a terrible materials choice for a spring application and you WILL have long-term spring pressure issues no matter what power output you run. Stick with stock, or possibly a beehive spring with a little more high-rpm resonance resistance, but please don't use Ti springs!!!

Another good idea is to take your wrist pins and have them DLC coated by Richter precision - they did my Macor brake caliper pistons and are very reasonable...expect to spend maybe $20 or so per pin but you may get 2-3 HP in the upper RPM ranges. Not bad for the money in my opinion!

I would suggest using Supra springs if they fit - many places online have them readily available...just my two cents! Good luck and I will be following the build!

i think i know who blew you off on this build LOL

good luck!!!!!!! 600CC injectors... holy sh!t!!!!
haha, thanks bro. just waiting for the rest of my orders to arrive so i can get started

I started tearing the engine out today . Got everything pulled off except Power Steering, Axles, and engine mounts. No rush, so im just taking my time

^Lol, a piggyback e-manage Ultimate will work perfectly.

I mean if he can be skilled enough to wire in OBDII and his A/C. You can get plenty of good numbers out of the combo. Google HKSBoost on SG. He was also a member here once.... don't remember his name though. 20psi with 486 hp with this system by itself. I don't know how much more you can complain about that considering his week point on his built was his 390cc injectors.
