Prius IV or Prius V.... that is the question

My wife and I are considering trading in our '08 Prius (pkg. 6 Nav/Lthr) for the '10 Prius.

My wife has decided that the Smart Key system is necessary as a basic function of life itself... which means we must choose from the Prius IV or V models.

The basic difference seems to be the V has larger wheels and tires, LED headlamps with auto-leveling, and fog lights. The IV has the ability to have the MoonRoof with Solar Panel (not available on the V).

For those of you who have chosen... why did you choose one over the other... and are you happy with your choice? ie: if you had to do it all over again would you make the same decision?

Does the solar roof keep the car ventilated and the cabin temperature down continuously or does it only operate for a short period of time. Having solar power available for ventilation sounds really neat... especially for us living in Las Vegas, NV... but does it really work... and how well?

How difficult or expensive is it to add fog lights to the IV?

Thank you... I appreciate that information... but my understanding is that the Prius III only has the smart key system on the Driver's door...??

Whereas the IV or V have it on drivers door, front passenger door, and rear hatch. Which my wife has decided is one of the basic necessities of life... right after food and water... heehee. In fact she is often frustrated when she walks up to any other car and the darn thing does not recognize her and unlock the door....

Yes she does want leather... although personally my experience is that after-market leather can be much nicer than the standard Toyota leather (we have an '05 Prius with Nav, but that year they did not offer leather so we added after-market leather and seat heaters... and we really like the after market product... it is thicker, richer and nicer looking... IMHO of course).

I looked at the IV and V and got the V. It is the only one available with the Advanced Technology Package which includes the dynamic (radar controlled) cruise control and Lane Keep Awake (LKA) (I'm a gadget lover). I like a sunroof, and so had one installed. The Solar Sunroof option on the IV just operates a ventilation fan, and gives you the option of remote starting the A/C for a few minutes. If this is that important, you can install the remote engine start and get the same result. The larger wheels on the V also come with an improved suspension system. Retrofitting the fog lights is not a big deal if you want to go with the IV.

Thanks Skipper I appreciate the comments.

As the car spends much of its time in Las Vegas, we decided to go with the Ventilation Fan hoping it would help keep the interior a little cooler.

I too am a "gadget freak" and was tempted by the AT package..., but did not want to have to pop with the extra ~$2K, but I certainly like the "look" of the V with the larger wheels, tires, and fog lights.

Thanks Tide.......

We picked it up on Monday the 31st.

Traded in our 2008 package #6 Prius for the new Prius IV.

We also have an '05 with Nav and Bluetooth... sounds like the Premium Package you mention in your bio....

Thank you for the suggestion on Prius Chat... I have put the fog-lights, window shade, and mud-guards in my basket... and am waiting to hear if the side moldings are available.

Canadian packages are different. For the Gen 2, we had the base, then the Premium Package (which is everything sans nav/bluetooth) then the Navigation package which adds nav and bluetooth.

Canadian dealers have it as an official Toyota Canada accessory. It's kinda skinny. It's also available via the PC shop.
