Questioning the 2006 Corolla again......

I have read all the 2006 model year TOYOTA COROLLA comments on this forum and from what I understand everybody is expecting 06 model year lights to stay the same and a NEW SHAPE for 2007..

According to my estimate 2008 was the TENTH generation year.

Let's review the Toyota Corolla history here..... I will try to keep YEAR RANGES per the US continent.

1) FOURTH Generation Corolla (Roughly 1980-1983)

Lights were different for 1982 and 1983 (last two years!)

2) FIFTH Generation Corolla (Roughly 1984-1987)

Lights were different for 1982 and 1983 (last two years!)

3) SIXTH Generation Corolla (Roughly 1988-1992)

Lights were different for 1991 and 1992 (last two years!)

2) SEVENTH Generation Corolla (Roughly 1993-1997)

Lights were different for 1996 and 1997 (last two years!)

1) EIGHTH Generation Corolla (Roughly 1998-2002)

Lights were different for 2001 and 2002 (last two years!)

2) NINTH Generation Corolla (Roughly 2003-2007)

Why 2007? To keep that 5 year increment Toyota has been honoring since late 1980s. Before that the generation life was 4 years.

I understand that 2003 came early in 2002 but it was still a 2003.

THERE ARE ONLY TWO CONCLUSIONS I CAN MAKE....

Toyota is treating its 2003 as 2002. THAT WILL MAKE 2005 AND 2006 LAST TWO YEARS, HENCE EXPLAINING THE FRONT GRILL/EMBLEM CHANGE FOR THE MODEL YEAR 2005. The first 3 years are not supposed to see any change but it did happen. There was this overlap in 2002 and basically messed up a 15 year old sequence and throwing ME off of the future change predictions.

Toyota will not make light changes for this generation. The emblem/grill change is all we are going to see.

You know what............... this messes up my plans...

I was waiting for the 06 RAV to come out next month to decide whether to get the RAV or the Corolla. I thought the Corolla shape was there to stay for atleast two more years.

If the 07 Corolla is different then I will have to painfully wait for another year to see if I want the Corolla or the RAV4.....................

....................... D*** it...... !

Don't get me wrong. I ADORE the current Corolla and will most probably get the 06.

Current Corolla has two more model years left (model year 06 in 05 and model year 07 in 06).

You're right. Currently, it has been rigorously following the 5-year cycle. Note that the 2002 MY had a short life of ~5 months. As you know the 2003 came out in Feb 02 and ran til Aug/Sep 03. Hence, it seems as if the Corolla's cycle has been shortened by one year. However, do note that our current Corolla has been around since 2000 so the shape is 5/6 years old already. It's is possible that a redesign will come in 2007 since the Camry already has been bumped 6 months ahead of schedule.

Up until about 2 weeks ago the model change was scheduled for 2007model year.
TMMNA Engineers and some plant pilot project workers have been pulled off the job and you will now likely see it in early '07 for '08 model year.
I don't know exactly why it is delayed however word is that it would be an extra burden on Cambridge with the opening in woodstock. Also, Top brass in Japan are unsatisfied with the currently proposed design for the next Corolla and they want to make sure they get it right. Also, there will be a lot of other model changes scheduled in such a short period of time.

I think this Corolla will stay for a 5 year cycle, but you might know better since you work for Toyota. :naughty:

Really? I don't think so. The 2006MY (due now) is the last year for Corolla before redesign which is due out later in 2006...as a 2007MY.

I work at the plant and the pilot workers have been pulled off the job and the model change has been pushed back to '08 model year.
Hopefully whatever has pushed it back is resolved and they can get it together for the '07 model year but as of right now it doesn't look that way. Maybe this will change.

A lot of XRS owners at www.9thgencorolla.com were keeping their fingers crossed for Rolla XRS to be discontinued to keep it rare, but seeing the success Toyota achieved by grabbing a big chunk (given it is a limited edition model with only 6 speed manual) of young tuner community who looks for performance tuned cars with good quality, affordability and reliability, I could not see why they would not make it a permanent fixture in the Toyota lineup. 95% of the XRS buyers are under the age of 28. It is good for aftermarket performance parts support as well since with more cars on the road with 2ZZ engine, it will get great aftermarket support in the next year or so.

Projected 5000 in 2005 for US/Canada/Puerto Rico

They met those projected sales a while ago and they were building some on special order from May onwards. Only 20% of the buyers are willing or know how to drive a stick shift so the market is small anyways.

isn't the Corolla XRS limited to 500/yr in Canada? I've only seen one or two and that's here in Vancouver!
