I split the difference and run 89.
Where and what you buy could be more important. Every 3rd tank I pay extra and use Chevron since their Techron is beneficial in keeping injectors clean. IMHO

 

No. Your engine is not designed for higher octane petrol.
You can go pay extra for Chevron or, go buy 2 pack of STP gas treatment and pour one in every about 10 refills. More cost efficient and same result as Chevron.

 

Try it out and see. This has been discussed into the ground. Half say yes and half say no. Your results will be influenced by your driving environment and style.

 

Just drains your wallet faster.

Go with Top Tier Gas and regular.

Cars that benefit from premium is when you see a disclaimer on the HP & Torque figures, that says something like "obtained by using Premium, YMMV"

 

I've put regular top tier 87 octane in all 5 of my F-150's, all 4 of my previous BMW's, my last Honda 2.0T sedan and never had any fuel related issues whatsoever. I don't see any reason to put premium fuel in these Toyota engines.

 

I say yes if you are speaking about occasionally for fuels like Shell V-Power NiTRO+ Premium for their cleaning additives. Look at what these types of additives are priced for in auto parts shops. Given the very high price for gas, the percent difference in price between low/ high octane is actually much lower now. 🤣

 

It really does come from the same hole in the ground. I watched years ago as a tanker was filling up a Speedway on Touhy in Chicago, near O'Hare. I went on about my business and a while later saw the truck leaving. Traffic was pretty bad, I was stuck behind him, and darned if he didn't drive down to the Shell station a couple of blocks west of Speedway to fill them up. If there's additives they put them in when they fill the tanks, not on the truck.

 

Maybe there are a series of white label dealings where certain suppliers provide fuel to other brands, but it is not generally disclosed to the customers. IDK. I have looked at stations like any average bear and there is nowhere I have seen storage for additives/ detergents. For example Shell, Chevron, Mobil etc. stuff added to the highest octane fuel they offer.

 

I meant the tanker driver. I know they do that for a fact with diesel, because back when I drove one I asked the driver at BP about it and he told me what additive he was putting in. So it's entirely possible they have additives that are mixed when they fill the tank. I use Costco because it's good fuel.
