It starts from a stop in 2nd gear. It also changes the car's programming to help prevent you losing traction or control. Basically a button to help people drive in snow that shouldn't be driving in snow LOL.

 

Actually on 2nd gen gas models it still starts in 1st speed but limits throttle response and changes programming on shifts and such. Unlike 1st gens where it does actually start in 2nd speed

 

In lay terms, it takes off like in molasses.

 

What does the Snow button do ?

Short of lighting up.. no one really knows. Lots of speculation but little (read none) documentation.

So now I have another question: I mainly drive this car on Mexican beaches and I’m mostly concerned with not getting stuck in the sand. Does this car have “traction control” ? I’m sorry for asking....I know I should read the manuel, but it’s written so poorly I hate to waste time with it and you guys are more fun to talk to.......anyway

 

I'm probably telling you something you already know but you should air down your tires to 18-20psi if you're planning on driving through sand. Buy an inflator to air the tires back up when you hit pavement.

 

Yes it has traction control and there is a button that will disable it.

 

What does the Snow button do ?

I keep hitting it and it still has not snowed!

living on the gulf coast of florida i press the button daily hoping it will snow,,,, but alas toyota you have failed me
