though if you're on the original ones, and you have the money, it wouldn't hurt to change them at the same time

 

I would replace them. They arent that cheap, but they will go bad, its a matter of when not if. The guy who owned my car before me replaced only the struts, and now I have a broken mount and a bunch of squeaky ones. So you can save some $$ for now, but eventually you will have to buy them anyway.

sorry to dig up old thread. But how will I know they are broken??

 

^ clunking when going over bumps and if you take them out and physically look at them, they appear broken.

 

handling improvement?

Does anyone here have any experience with the KYB replacement strut mounts? Do they offer any handling improvement over a genuine Toyota replacement strut mount? Are they stiffer or have a beefier bearing? Any input would be appreciated. thanks

 

ive had the kyb replacements for over a year, theyre just oem replacements... nothing beefier i dont think and they wont improve handling but they will stop the noise and youll be on safer suspension

i think i paid something like 200 for all four driving down to nappa.

 

Strut mounts

The front mounts have bearings and can start to rattle over even small bumps.Mine are doing so with 65K. The back w no bearings should be fine.I just bought front mounts today fom the dealer for $88 each. I found that I didn't need them and took them back. Just flare out the hole in thelower plate - below the bearing ring, so the bearings fit in there snuggly. I did this and installed new struts - it's great now, no rattling . Mike
