Tank strap failure

Just a heads up to those whose trucks are used in the rust belt. check your gas tank straps for excessive rust. Especially the rear one.
After 8 years and 250000 km, my gas tank dropped after the strap failed. Luckily it remained attached by the front strap and filler hose, or it could have been worse. This truck gets rust proofed every year since new, and still the frame and anything attached to it is covered in rust. Body sheet metal is excellent though. I'm thinking of going to a marine supply place and getting some zinc anodes to bolt to the frame. It couldn't hurt.

Older thread I know...my rear tank strap broke yesterday due to excessive rust. The front strap is about to go too. Made an emergency fix after removing the old. Go to the dealership Friday for repair (I know I could have done these myself) and frame rust inspection. Outcome to follow soon.

Dealership was such a rip off. Nearly triple the price for the parts as compared to our TN vendor and one hours labor at $105. I asked if these were covered as part of the frame replacement campaign and was informed no they are not. Was told to hold onto invoice to see if it will be covered at a later date as a service campaign. Frame failed inspection so a new frame is in order for first part of 2016.
