The JBez Gen 5 Camry Update Threadstravaganza

I know I've seen a lot of build threads around here so I wanted to start one of my own! I inherited an 04 Camry v6 LE with the 5 speed auto (my first car :D), and although I was reluctant to have it at first (was used to driving around my mom's 08 Acura RDX), it sure as hell grew on me and I've fallen in love with the car. The build is not gonna be much for a while, I gotta make some money first (saved a wad of cash working part time, full time job coming in the summer before university so I can blow some dough on my ride) but I'm still in high school so I don't really mind :) But yeah, she's all stock save for a new headunit, a JVC KD-R820BT  It has two usb ports, on the front and back, the back usb is currently taken up by the bluetooth dongle that comes with the unit! I'll post a video review soon but for now here's a picture of what it looks like! Its a fantastic stereo and I'd recommend it to anyone, the bluetooth is fantastic, and music sounds fantastic as well... even with my stock speakers, it brings a lot of life to em'. My car has the non-JBL setup. If anyone has done any audio upgrades on their Gen 5 and has any pointers or reccomendations for me I'd appreciate it :chug:

I'll add some pics soon of the car from the outside, although its nothing special :p

Oh and out of curiosity, I'm running the stock P205/65/R15's (alloys), and I'd like to go with a nice clean wheel setup. I'm one for sporty driving but the car rides so nicely as is that I don't want to ruin the ride too badly :) would I be better off with 17's or 18's?

TN you've made me fall in love with my camry!

looks good

gen 5 camrys have stock 6X9s in the front doors and rear deck..... the rear deck is easier to mount new 6X9s if u wanted but u may run into problems with the front doors.... there is not much clearance from where they mount to where the glass sits when the window is down; i ended up going with 6 1/2 in the front doors, 6X9 on the deck, new tweeters on the dash cuz the originals fell appart (literally), and a small powered sub in the trunk

yeah, my friend has an 05' and he was telling me the same thing... the one thing with the non-JBL setup in my car is that I don't even have tweeters to begin with  they leave the speaker grates in the corners on the top of the dash but its just a filled hole where the tweeters should go  I was also thinking of a sub but for now I already have trunk rattle so a sub would be overkill for my applications ;) I really gotta drop a seat or open that passthrough in the morning, you dont realise how loud your music sounds on the outside of your car until you hear it for yourself  thanks for the tips! cheers :chug:

Hey mate, welcome !

imo - go 18's

ive chucked a 17" on mine and i wasnt satisfied (but thats just me) the gap in the wheel arch was too big, 17"made the car look big (its already big), soo id go 18s and then lower it a bit, to your liking, :]

also - get a rear sway bar - best bang for buck mod (seeing as you said you were in high school) - you wont regret it trust me ;)

enjoy your camry

Thank you. Camry is put away, so it won't see a meet until probably March or April. But we make a thread in the Canada regional section. It is the last saturday of the month at the Tim Hortons by Kennedy Commons

Ahh yeah, its off Kennedy between Elsmere and the 401...

Here's some more pictures, its snowing pretty badly, I'm glad I got these new Hankook Optimo 4S tires, they're all seasons but the one of the only snow rated passenger car all season in Canada (thanks Punks), make a hell of a difference in the powder but I can leave em on all year round (until I get rims, that is )

These are the Optimo 4S tires, I'd highly reccomend them to anyone who lives in a snowy area but dosen't want to change tires over after every winter. They have great performance in all conditions, rain or shine, snow and ice :)

A view from the back!

I have Nokian all season "winter rated" tires on my Legacy, they're badass in the snow i love them with the AWD.

It's off Kennedy/Progress, just west of the Scarborough town center.

Another Gen5.....winning  I felt the same way when I got my camry in high school, 140k miles later its slammed and lovin' it everyday! The only thing I'd do differently is instead of going with 17", go with 18". I had to drop the sh*t out of my car for the 17s to look good, wiht 18"s you don't have to drop it too much. Have fun man!

Well, what're you looking for...colorwise?

I have 4300k its more of a bright white, 6k is white with a hint of blue then 8k is blue. The higher temp you go the less light output you're going to get and more color.

I was looking for that white/powder blue look, the look you see from cars with xenon lights stock when your looking at them from above the cutoff point. I know the stock colour tempurature for cars fitted with xenon lights is 4300k, but I think if I went with a 6000k I'd get a more blueish effect without sacrificing too much lumens output. Although doing more research it seems that 8000k gives me the effect that I want  decisions, decisions. When I do upgrade to HID's however I want to do it right and get a set of projector lamps like the ones speedkar has.

I've got 6000K LUMENS brand HID's in my Chrome Spyder Halo projectors (I also got it from CarID). They show white.

I was told that you need a slightly higher temp in projectors for them to show up white.

When I get around to making a build thread, I'll post up pics.
Yes I've seen your youtube videos on the lights. :) I'm looking at the black spyder lights as in my link, would you reccomend them? And like I said if im looking for a powder blue/white look is it any different for the spyder projectors? Through research I've seen that 6k is a blueish white.

Thanks guys!

I have 4300k in my low beams. They're perfect.

As far as those headlights, i have had aftermarket lights and the output sucked, so did the fitment. So if it were me i wouldn't buy them.

Hey guys, its been a while since I've updated;

She has 33,250km now on the clock, and I just dropped in a K&N Air Filter tonight. Took it for a test drive and man, the car pulls harder, especially in the low end; I probably feel more of a change because my old paper air filter was absolutley clogged  but still I can tell the cam breathes much better now!

Its awesome that a little investment like that can make a noteworthy improvement! Better yet, it never has to be replaced! I feel the performance difference, and I know they improve fuel enconomy as well so we will see how that goes

Next on the list, either nabbing some new speakers, or doing a res delete :p

Thoughts or suggestions on either?

Maybe... just wonder if it would fit in the smaller space of the v6, and whether or not it could handle the extra torque...

I painted my grille today; heres what she looks like:

Put an extra coat on the logo because i dug my nail into it and it stripped right off :thumbsdow im gonna let it sit and dry on for a few hours; and after she'll be on the ride!
