well i just noticed tonight that i have a bulge on the outside sidewall of my rear right tire, its about an inch wide, 3 inches long, runs perpendicular to the radius of the tire

the only one i've ever seen was when i worked at a garage, swapped a tire that had a bulge that blew out, i'm wondering if i could last this out for a while, save some money, i only drive to run errands in town and go to work, 15kms

has anyone ever had one of these survive for a while?

you could try inflating it to max PSI (or KGSI if that's what's used in canada) and seeing if it goes away for the time being. Of course I'm thinking about the bulge you get at the bottom of your tire when the weight of the car presses the tire down so that it's wide.

i have had some bulges... sad things- this brings up another question i had, not to ruin your thread, but i have a small tear in the rubber on teh sidewall of my tire- do you think that is structurally unsafe- or will that end up just beind cosmetic- it is about the size of a dime/quarter and not too deep

That buldge is called a "Bubble."
It happens when you weaken the side wall by hitting a huge pothole, speeding, or parking with the wheel touching the curb. I have had dozens of bubbles. It usually happens to people with low porfiles though.

Its dangerous to drive with it like that. Its most likely to blow at any time now. I currently have one about 6 inches long on my car and am looking to replace it.

It should look something like this right?

its not a 'weakened' spot in the tires sidewal... its a severly weakened spot in the tire. why? because where the bulge is... metal cords have either been cut and are not holding anything together anymore or they have moved and shifted binding up in one area and leaving the other stranded... all depends on your luck, the internet won't tell you how long it's going to last, but not putting as much weight on it (no more hard cornering) should theoretically reduce the load on the now rubber only sidewall your camry's running on.

Once, in the Cress, a few years ago, on a left turn, my dad was trying to avoid an oncoming bus (running the yellow/red  ) and smacked the left-rear Michelin XGT4 on the curb... no harm done, just the bulge. Since it was a relatively new tire under warranty, we were actually on the way to Costco anyway (where we got the tire) and "inquired" about it. Much to our amazement, they gave a refund on the tire  We just showed them the bubble and didn't tell them what happened :|

Hopefully you may be as lucky my dad was.

well i called the crappy tire up here to see if they had a 215/60r15 in stock, and to my amaisement they did, it was even on sale, 30$ off... so i'm getting it changed, i might as well, i'll have to before i change my plates over to manitoba

used about 35$ of canadian tire money too, so it ended up being pretty cheap

Bulge noise????

Am not really sure if they make any significant noise and if they do i have no idea wat this noise sounds like. but i would think it would make some sort of noise that sound different from the rest of your tires that are runnin as they should, still with or without the noise bulges are NEVA good things to have.
