Trying to change low beams

I was searching all over the Internet on google and Toyotanation forum even Venza.org, I could not find any thing on how to change bulbs for the Venza with oem hids. Does any one know how to access the bulb? I cant figure out how to open up the back cover. Since one of my bulbs burnt, might as well change it.

Also does The Venza use DRL led bulbs on high beam without a resistor or decoder? Because I will soon be receiving my bulbs and I know some cars require a resistor/decoder.

LED DRL's

To answer your 2nd question, not that I could find. I recently ordered LED replacement bulbs for my DRL/Highbeam (HB3 9005), Low beam (H11) and switchback amber/white (3157) for running light/turn signals and from what I found, you only need the load resistors for the turn signals to avoid hyper flash.

I am taking a little chance replacing everything with LED, because they are half the lumens as the halogens, but most of my night driving is in the city which is pretty well lit. I think they will look much better as I ordered 6000K which is pure white. I ordered them from China so I paid like $40 bucks for everything with free shipping, if they don't work out, oh well.

Once I get them, I plan on posting some half and half as well as full replacement photos.

I'm interested to see how you like the LEDs for your drl/high. I really want to get rid of my halogens, but you'll lose your highs (which I've never yet used) when you replace them with led.

Did you get 3157ck switchbacks? If you get the regular 3157's you'll blow the fuse - unfortunately I know this from personal experience :)

Also, did you get LEDs for the low beams? If you did they'll look great but likely won't have adequate output. But as you said, for $40 shipped its worth trying.

I look forward to the comparison photos!

What bulbs are you planning on using as replacements, just curious? I have a RX350BX retrofit in my Toyota Tundra and I am running the Osram CBI 5000K bulbs. I really got used to the color and now my factory Venza HIDs just look too yellow.

Once you figure out how to change out the bulbs I would be curious to know how to as well as I may consider changing the bulbs. Looks like the access to the bulbs is just a matter of removing the ballast, judging by that ebay link pic.

I'm not sure I completely understand this question. Do you have a 2013, with oem led drls? If so (and they flash when you turn) they need load resistors but will be integrated from the factory.

What Iburton said above is correct. If you change any bulb that flashes, to LED (from halogen), you need a load resistor or LED flasher module. I personally recommend load resistors.

It's definitely possible, especially if you are familiar with electronics. (I noticed that you are an engineer.) You just need to get both (high and low) +'s to one side of the bulb, and - to the other. (Then make sure you insert it properly :) ) You'll likely need to break into the base to make this happen. Please excuse me if I'm backwards on any of this, I wrote it rather quickly.

Check out these these pictures from autolumination.com (they also sell the ck or "swack" type bulbs common on Toyota's.

Here are pictures of each side of my switchbacks. I know on the passenger side, positive faces the passenger side of the car (the bulbs I bought were designed to only go in one way). I would assume the drivers side is the same, but I'm not certain.

What site did you buy from?

If they would just list lumen output, it would be simple to compare. This is likely the exact reason they don't. But, you'd think if a cheap competitor had the best output (or close for the price), they'd make it known..

Although the images say dealinthebox, they are actually from different vendors. Here are the links to them.

H11
3157 Switchbacks
HB3 9005

I looked briefly and did find some festoons from the same place I got the switchbacks but all I found were 42mm and 31mm, no 29's. I also found some 194's but no 921's.

I just checked the output of our 9005 halogen high beams - its 1700.

Most hid's are around 3200 for the low beams. Granted the high beams are designed to illuminate a higher field of sight (right?)

I may purchase a set of LEDs for looks for the drls, but this will effectively eliminate my high beams. Maybe I don't really need them? I haven't been in a situation where I've had to use them yet..

So I got my LED Bulbs and they do not fit in the reflector assembly. The diameter of the LED assemblies are too big to fit thru the holes in the reflectors. They are 20mm in diameter and are very close to fitting, but not quite!

I looked at the H11's and HB3's on V-LEDs and they are 18.6 and 18.4mm's in diameter and I believe these would fit. When I get to work on Monday, I will measure the holes in the reflector to be sure.

I am going to look for some cheap Chinese ones again to see if I can find them in the correct size, if not, it looks like l'll be paying $180 to get them from V-LEDs.

Even though they didn't fit they looked well made and were quite bright. To be continued...

V-LEDs will always fit, unless it's an odd application. You can also can ask them, or read reviews before your purchase.

I'm with you on the cheaper (cut out the middleman) bulbs. Vleds has claimed the flagship position, with flagship pricing. I recently asked them on their Facebook page why they don't list lumen output, they said they're working in it - ( yea right )

There are other reliable sellers out there, but they'll never be as cheap
as ordering from china.

Good luck, and keep us posted!

I really don't think the glare is bad at all, but I guess everyone is entitled to their own opinion.

The only thing you can do to define the cutoff and stop the glare, is pull the lights open them up and tape over the spotter boxes with aluminum tape. While you have them open, you may want to install new projector lenses. This will really define the light, and you have close to oem hid's, likely with better output.

Alright, this is what i concluded:
Pros:
1. Brighter by 15% to 20%
2. Longer beam.

Cons:
1. Decreased peripheral lighting.
2. Stong spot light like beam pattern.

Verict: Not happy, it looks like a 70's tractor with spot lights.
Thank you for reading

PS: I just purchased Morimoto 5k hid's. Im hoping it will satisfy me.

So i got the Morimoto 5k 35w installed and im impressed, but...

I had them installed in a garage under the building and it was nice and warm inside, but after i drove outside for 10 min (32degrees) and found the inside of the headlight fogged and clear only around the projector.
I dont know about this, but it doesnt look good...Is this kit emitting to much heat ? Do i have to make a vent hole somewhere ?:wtf:

It's normal. Mine did the did the same thing and never got close to melting. I could be wrong, but I think the additional light makes the condensation (which was there all along) more visible.
