Which RWD Celica do you have? (eg RA29, RA43, RA65)
Which Supra engine are you planning to use? (eg 7M-GTE, 2JZ-GTE)

The 7M has been put into all the RWD Celica except the RA20/21/22 but it upsets handling by putting too much weight forward of the front wheels.
I haven't seen anybody put a 1JZ or 2JZ into a RWD Celica, so I don't know if it will fit.

There are other engine options to pursue.
Eg 18R-G, 20R/22R hybrid, 22R-TE, 3S-GTE, 4A-GZE or even the Lexus 1UZ-FE V8.
All these can be made to fit any RWD Celica but have various degrees of difficulty.

I'm not sure what code my engine is, but I have an 85 celica gts,4 cyl, I was planning on using the 7m-gte cuz I have heard sum good things about it. I don't know what the 2jz-gte is unless it is from a diff. gen. thanks for your input. The only problem that I ever heard about the 7m-gte is about the keyway, so if that is true, then I don't know what I'm gunna do.

Go checkout www.celica-gts.com you'll probably get more help there. The 2jzgte and 1jzgte has been done but theres a lot of custom work. The 7mgte isn't a bad choice. I too have an '85 GTS. If I ever have the funds to do a swap I'd probably more likely go with the 3tgte. As it is simpler and keeps your weight more balanced. Its what the Japs had in their Celica's so it drops right in.

But yes, visit celica-gts.com. All the information you need will be there. They are very helpful there as well.

An 85 Celica has a 22R engine in the US (othe countries differ).

The 7M-GTE will fit your 85 GTS but it is a tight fit and will definitely handle badly (too much weight up front).
It might also require shifting the radiator forward (shift weight even further forward).
There are bellhousings to allow your old gearbox to fit the 7M but the 7M-GTE would break it too easily, so you are also up for a new gearbox and fabricating gearbox mounts.
The Supra from the same year as your Celica has a 5M-GE, which can be uprgaded to a 7M-GTE much easier than your car because it was designed for the M series engines.

The 3T-GTE suggested by TubRog05 is an excellent choice but it may be hard to find one in the US.
Toyota used Celica 84-85 coupes with the 3T-GTE (modified) for the World Rally Championship.

Easy choice would be to add a turbo to your 22R-E.
Use the manifold from a 22R-TE.
Add an aftermarket computer because neither the 22R-E computer or the 22R-TE computer will be able to handle it.
www.lcengineering.com have the bits you need.

Change your 22R head for a 20R head to raise the compression ratio.
See http://ourworld.compuserve.com/homepages/stepho/eng20r.htm for details.
Again, LC Engineering have all the bits.
