Upgrade from Entune to Entune Plus/Premium

Well, I just bought a 2015 Camry SE, and it came with the basic Entune audio system. What I wanted to do is upgrade it to at least the Entune Plus (so I can have HD Radio and Satellite Radio), or the Entune Premium so I can have the full package.

From what I have been reading, this seems to be a plug and play job, but that I might have to add a couple of modules (like the SAT module or GPS antenna), which isn't a big deal.

What is the big deal is knowing which unit to get, and trying to find one that isn't being sold by someone who thinks it is made of solid gold! So far, I have gathered that I need either one of these units:

Entune Plus - P10719 (86140-06210)
Entune Premium - 100367 (86100-06031)

Can anyone shed some light on which unit I need? I know I will need the "spider" wiring harness, and the above antennas, but I first need the headunit...

Doing a little research, here is what I have found so far... Part #'s for the different units:

86140-06210 PIONEER, ID=P10719, AUDIO-DISPLAY AUDIO(*DLX) & 6SPEAKER 1
86140-06370 PIONEER, ID=P10803, PIONEER 1
86140-06390 FUJITSU TEN, ID100366, FUJITSU TEN 1

86804-06100 FUJITSU TEN, ID100367, AUDIO-AVN & 6SPEAKER

I believe this is the part # for the navigation unit, but it does give me the ID # for the Navigation system. This also confirms that I should be able to use the P10719 unit if I don't want the Entune Premium, but the Entune Plus.

I don't have an external antenna, so I would have to figure that out as well....

You need to decide if you would like to go with HD Radio or upgrade to Nav unit.

You can get a NAV unit from ebay or junk yard for $450 - $550. Make sure that you don't get JBL unit.
You would need to get a GPS antenna adapter from Toyota 86808-02080 $35+$15 shipping.
You would also need to pick a GPS antenna from Amazon $19
Depending on the unit condition, you might also need to get a spider cable with 6 connectors 86842-0E010. This cable connect your Radio unit to XM/NAV box.

If you want, you can also buy a XM antenna from Amazon for around $16 and modify a connector so it can be used.

I actually did 2 stage swap. I swapped Entune to Etune Plus for HD Radio first. Then I decided to go with NAV unit and did a NAV swap. Everything works fine.

I just wish I went to NAV unit directly since I have bunch of extra parts which I don't need.

I have a 2015 LE with the Entune Plus (P10719). It has HD radio and satellite radio along with the traffic and weather apps (information provided by HD radio). You'll probably have to get an antenna similar to the SiriusXM aftermarket radios.

IDK why people want SAT radio or HD radio when apps like Pandora and Slacker are free. Cant skip music on radio. Not to mention Maps are already on the phone.

Bluetooth everything and it works just like the radio upgrades. Use that cash for an extra car payment.

I actually use Spotify (paid) for some music, my iPod Classic for some music, and terrestrial radio for local events. I just happen to like HD Radio. Satellite radio sucks when used with an Aux input, but the built in is not as bad.

Navigation.... well, sometimes it's easier to use a nav system instead of the phone...

Well, the major part has been secured. Picked up a Entune 100367 (86100-06031). Paid $500 for it, and it comes with the "spider" harness and the digital HVAC controls (that I might eventually convert to).

Now to start picking up the other misc pieces.

Question: Am I going to need TechStream to match this in? I have access to a genuine TechStream setup (fried of mine is a mechanic at a Toyota dealer) if I need to.

Question: Is there a way to get my VIN matched to the new unit, so I can use my VIN for the App software (registration on the web)? I am trying to get the VIN from the donor car, but not sure if it will be available or not.

From what I have read and gathered, you have to register with the donor vehicle's VIN. That's the easiest way.

I am trying to get someone at Toyota to see if I can get my VIN updated with the new unit, but I am doubting it.

By chance, does anyone have close up, detailed pictures of the GPS and XM connectors on the back of the radio? If they both use FAKRA connectors, I might be able to just buy the plugs from Digikey or the like, and change the ends myself.

I used this antenna:
https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0009J6PYW/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o01_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1

This will be connected to the bottom box with black connector:

Next you will need to break a pink plastic part of a connector on antenna:

After the pink part is removed you will end-up with just metal part of the connecter which will be plugged directly into a black connector from picture 1. You can do the same thing with GPS antenna.

If you don't want to mess with GPS antenna connector then you can buy an adapter from Toyota:

Here is its connector.

The bottom image... which is the adapter... The part you are holding... does that go into the head unit, or is that where the GPS antenna plugs into?

I have an old XM Radio Antenna that has the pink FAKRA connector on it, so I can save a few $$ there.

I was hoping to be able to identify and obtain the actual connectors, and change them myself so they just plug in.... or come across the actual GPS antenna for the car...

Well, the radio arrived today, and in fairly good condition. Needs a little cleaning up, but no scratches on the display or faceplate.

Bad thing is, even though it came with the spider harness, it has been cut. All the plugs and wire are there, but two of the lines were cut. The Brown square one (the end that goes into the radio) and the flat white one have been cut off. I thought about trying to resolder them back together. I have the knowledge and equipment, but just don't know if it's worth the trouble to save $50 for the harness.

One good thing is it does have the memory card for the maps, and they did include the VIN for the donor vehicle, so I can use that VIN to get the app.

Well, I decided to put some free time and the soldering skills to work, and put the chopped spider harness back together. After a few hours (and a couple of burned fingers), I had the harnesses rejoined. I also swapped the GPS antenna over to the plug segment I had with the radio.

The GPS works, and so does the XM Radio! Now, I need to find out what software is on it, and how to update the maps....

Does anyone know of any GPS antennas that can be used via the fakra connector by breaking off the plastic? If not if you if the OEM antenna needs the adapter? I imagine not since it's a toyota original antenna with the proper connection.

I ask since this is very similar to the corolla upgrade. :)
