camry is a heavy car at 2500+ lbs

Other than the obvious carbon fiber hood and trunk that reduces weight, what other things can you do that will reduce the curb weight of the camry?

something that wont cut out functions....anyone done anything that reduce the weight?

Carbon fiber is stronger

and when it comes to accident, the frame does the most work anyway
It's also extremely brittle, and tends to shatter upon impact, even relatively mild impacts that would merely dent a steel panel. It also transmits noise and vibration really well, so say goodbye to your quiet ride.

Since no one's going to make a full set of CF body panels for a Camry, you can start with this:

http://www.treadstoneperformance.com/product.phtml?p=246&phot_key=421

Then, like some have suggested, go with a set of ultralight forged wheels to reduce unsprung weight. Upgrade the suspension to take advantage of the new shoes and the soon-to-be-much-lower curb weight.

Next, you can ditch the rear seat and rear carpet/trim/upholstery, and cut out the fiber and asphalt sound-deadening material. Remove the headliner. Toss the rear speakers. Toss the rear power window motors, if you have them.

Then you can go for a pair of relatively inexpensive fiberglass-shell racing bucket seats.

Then you can convert to 5-speed to save weight and get more of the engine's mild power output down to the tires.

But if you're going to go that far, you may as well go NA-T or 3S-GTE conversion.

Still, though, Camrys and Civics are apples and oranges. I wouldn't have even got into it with such an obvious troll.

If you have steel wheels, get alloy wheels. It's not a lot, but it removes weight from where it counts as you'll get better handling. Savings of 5 lbs per wheel can easily be realized for a modest budget. Shave another 5 lbs if you upgrade the spare to an alloy (or just remove it)

yeah...unfortunately....the camry 4banger is still 3000+ lbs...it's a mid-sized sedan after all, not a hatchback civic lol. the v6 comes in closer to 3200lbs give or take.

the good news is that you've already done a bit though- the ksport coilovers weight a decent bit less than the stock suspension

beyond that, it's mostly what everybody else was saying- spare tire and jack, sound deadening materials, seats.

then the more extreme stuff that can't be seen like window actuators, etc. lol

but yeah...personally, I've still never thought of it to be worth it to strip a DD down for speed...because the rule of thumb is that you'll only gain .1 second on the 1/4 mile for ever 100lbs that you lose...and it's pretty tough to lose 100lbs off your car after taking out the spare tire. even a seat is probably only around 40lbs I think....

spare tire and jack are what you'll most likely need when your car blows a tire LOL

my hope is that there might be some stuff that can be taken off completely...like underbody stuff that's metal that can be replaced with lighter epoxy or something.

too bad the frame of camry is made of like either steel or iron...something really heavy....aluminum would have been nice

best bet to lighten up is find every part that can be replaced with a lighter counterpart haha

tnx for info though...
i got into this huge fight with a prick on another forum with a boosted civic...talking shit about my camry pfft

^ lol aluminum would be nice....if it were a high-end sports car.....but for what it is, we can't expect any more...

and you're out of luck when it comes to heavy stuff on the underbody of our cars...it's all plastic shielding pretty much. the solaras had a couple pieces of metal that could be removed and replaced with plastic. no such luck for us though

as for the lack of a spare tire...I've always had CAA and I never carried a spare with me for 4 years in TO actually. I kept a pump from canadiantire that has the emergency sealant though, just in case. and never really had a big problem- once I got a piece of metal in my tire, so I pumped it up and limped it home to mississauga from etobicoke. and the other time, I hit collision debris on my way to waterloo and it was two tires and also the rims, so regardless, I was screwed and needed a tow home.

I actually only put my spare back in when I came down to NYC since it's a over a 500mile drive.

as for the boosted civic...it's not nice of him to laugh...but in terms of performance, he'll kill you in both straights and turns...just, in the end, a civic doesn't impress the chicks. a camry doesn't really either lol...but more than a civic does at least haha

i get the same thing soem times, but realize that 1. im one of a kind and 2. it a different class, civics today are the muscle cars of the late 60s. easy to upgrade cheap and have one purpose, fast. i think of people like us as the ones who mix it up.

though its true ive met few chicks who would swoon over a camry but FAR less who would over a civic:lol:.

get custom CF parts made if you really want to reduce weight

remove everything as if it were an M3 CSL or GT3 RS ... two cars you can learn a lot from in terms of weight reduction

1. A good lightweght racing seat will be much more than 300 a pair.

2. More people own camry's in the US than Civics

3. Owning a Honda does not make you a ricer...modifying your car in a way that is an embarrassment to the import community makes you a ricer (My Honda will swallow your camry whole and look better doing it :))

4. If you want serious weight savings, you better be prepared to open the wallet. Forged rims (big weight savings advantage since it's unsprung weight), Racing seats, Carbon Parts, etc. all cost money...lots of money.

5. Depending on how serious you want to get with weight savings, you could pull your AC and other non-essential items from the car, remove all soundproofing, remove the back seats, etc. I wouldn't go that far if you intend to do anything other than straight racing.

i feel that alot of the rice these days is gone. i see very few civics with big ass body kits and wings and more built to do what they can do best. their attitude is somthing different, and really thats what rice is. ive met plenty of civic and such owners who have the "my shit is faster then yours" attitude and ive learned to ignore it, cuz in many cases its true. ive met my share of people with big body kits or crap that id never put on any car who do not street race nor think they have a super fast car. i think you see more in the civic community partly because there are SO many.

weight reduction, id say wheels. worth the money is its one of thoes thigs that you can take with you when u get rid of the car.

the fucker who i had a fight with said i'm rice cuz I repainted my hubcaps and I got a mesh grille.

He also said i'm rice cuz i want a sunroof
LOL..

someone got no fucking clue what rice means -_-
it's annoying
Wow that is sad, He is a ricer for just saying that. My car never been called rice but ghetto. LOL My 2006 Accord is faster than the Camry. I'm keeping the Accord stock tho, you see too many of them with loud cannons at the back and other sh!t

rice means different things to different people. obviously he thought painting hub caps and mesh grills is ricey. try shrugging it off next time, what does it matter anyways. there are gonna be people who scorn ya cuz u want to mod a camry, accept it or get another vehicle.

The front seats are very heavy compared to my Corbeau Forza. Go find some seat brackets in a junkyard and attach them to the after market seat. Keep the originals if you sell the car. I bought the bracket, $100 and the Forza Seat for $220 Shipment was $55, not bad for a huge box. If you buy two seats with brackets, shipment is free and plus if you go to car shows, you can get the seats cheaper and get sponsored by them. Their bracket is not bad, pretty solid, I had to drill one hole bigger to make all 4 bolts fit.

Removing the back seat is an easy job. Our cars seats are pretty heavy compared to my friend's Impreza.

the quickest and cheapest weight-reduction mod (something that almost all of us can do):

Quit going to McDonald's, get to a gym instead, and lose some weight, fatty!

(I can talk, I weigh twice what Danica Patrick weighs!)

go Jeep status. Pull the doors, headliner, glovebox, A/C, seats, carpet, sound deadening, spare, lightweight battery, fog lights, get a simple steering wheel, racing seats, pull center console, rear seatbelts, lexan windows, cf hood and trunk, remove intake box and replace with cone filter, pull window squirters, cut the hood corss members out.

of course thats all for track. Like, mentioned above, there are some easy to do things to reduce weight without sacrificing well, everything.

oh! and poo before you drive your car anytime.

Ancient post but no one mentioned the window glass which is by far the heaviest thing in plain sight! :D:D:D

7 windows could be ditched for Lexan but it comes at a cost!

Next in line is the bumper struts, tow hooks, non-factory HU Amps/speakers with gian ass magnets

FWIW: Stock 95 w/spare and WeeSix engine w/Auto trans tipped in at 3300lbs
