Wet 2nd Row Carpet? Anyone?

The last few times I've taken the one piece 2nd row floor mat out to vacuum, the carpet has been soaked underneath from about the center of car all the way to the right passenger door sill...A full half of the floor mat shows droplets on the underside. Flooded the passenger side doors with the hose and have no leaks, put her up on ramps and inspected underneath and weather sealing seems in place in the obvious vulnerable areas (back was out so didn't spray the undercarriage). Anyone having the same issue before I bring it in to the dealer? Guess I'll monitor the next couple of rainy drives to see if the car in motion brings it on.

I seriously doubt an AC condenser can put out that much water...plus it's the second row....the front seats would get soaked first.

There are several possibilities....None are good.

Take it to the dealer. You don't want this to continue...Also make sure you get the carpeting OUT and dried. Cleanup and water on the metal. If rust has started then you need to take care of that.

This was an issue on my old Volvo XC90 with the sunroof drain tubes clogging. They ran down the A pillars and would cause water to pool under the front seat carpets on the floor boards. I dont know what the HL drain setup is , or where its routed , just putting it out there for a potential cause/something to look at.

Help on Water Leak

So I found the leak, the headliner is soaked above the passenger 2nd row seat with water coming out where the seat belt exits the opening over head and running down the seat belt onto the floor. Can someone who doesn't have crossbars please remove one of the chrome tech plates where they attach (easy with small screw driver) and tell me if there is a plug in the hole where the crossbar gets bolted in, this maybe where the water is coming in. I took the crossbars off a long time ago and there is no mention to insert a plug into the open hole which accepts the bolt??? Thanks for your help guys, this will take you less than a couple of minutes start to finish.

I recently installed cross bars and there were no plugs in the screw holes. There are the plastic caps that go over the places where the cross bars connect (I assume you replaced those.)

Sounds like there is a leak somewhere either in the sunroof area, the bolt-down areas for the front-rear rails or the weather stripping above the doors/hatch.

So dealer found the leak, a drain hose in the sunroof channel came loose and doused the headliner and has soaked the floor underfoot in the backseat a number of times. Headliner is stained, dealer has offered to replace and inspect underneath the carpet. I'm not sure I'll take the offer, the idea of them removing seats and things related to the headliner makes me nervous...just think it will create additional problems and trips to dealer. Disappointed in Toyota at this point...been driving my Moms base model CRV experiencing better brakes, responsive steering, and wind noise that at 60+ resembles my HL at 40.

I have replaced carpeting in a car. If your carpet is soaked, it will not dry out - the carpet has sound deadening material on the bottom, a waterproof (plastic like) middle and the sewn in carpet top (what you see).

The purpose is to keep water from getting to the sound deadening material. You have to replace the carpet if there is lots of standing water under the carpet. Otherwise you WILL have rust and mold.

No way to dry out the sound deadening material without removing it.

Removing seats and trim is not hard at all with the right tools and diagrams (instructions). A good shop can do this without compromising the panels or introducing creaks and groans.

Similar thing happened to my parent's Camry Hybrid. Toyota repair shop did a great job replacing the carpet and rust-proofing the interior flooring where the water caused corrosion.

Insist on NEW flooring.

Rethink that position...You want to remove the carpet and inspect underneath. If any rust has started forming it's only going to get worse. Same with the headliner. I highly suspect there's some rust already....especialy if it's been sitting a while

Thanks for the advice guy's, I remembered some folks having problems with headliners early on and thought the windshield was removed in order to replace it. I sent a message to one of the members who had the procedure done to see how it all worked out. So I guess I'll be heading back to the dealer.

well aware of this issue as just got my 2015 platinum back from the dealer. Condensation line as clogged causing the moisture under the passenger from and second row seating. Unfortunately when they corrected the line problem they did not properly dry the flooring and four weeks later a musty smell in the car. Back to the dealer and they found major mold problems on the flooring. Long story they had to replace all carpeting, subflooring scraped and everything had to go though a third party mold demediation. Dealer worked closely and Toyota provided vehicle but what a hassle. I am concerned about reoccurrence of the issue as while they fixed the clog, what have they changed to prevent it happening again? Live in the south so AC on regularly. Check under the carpet!

Thanks for the info DM, sorry to here you're in the same boat...did your head liner get soaked like mine (and stained) and require replacement? I'm reluctant to have that done if they do have to remove windshield like some have said. Regarding the clogged lines, my sunroof is NEVER opened (don't use it) so debris from overhead is a non issue. Another has said the drain tubes can't handle volume of water they are faced with, not sure if that's true? Hope they fixed your clog, mine was supposedly fixed once and is still leaking. I'll probably see what they offer on a trade in since my head will always be working overtime over this problem.
