I just don't think Camrys get anywhere near as good gas mileage as Accords.

I had a 4 cyl 96' Accord EX that I averaged about 25 mpg city. My 4-cyl 09' Camry is definitely not getting that much...but probably not TOO much less...probably around 22 mpg.

I drive as casually as possible. I don't accelerate like a maniac at traffic lights or brake at the last second either. Don't speed to pass cars, etc. Keep tire pressure good, clean air filter, maintain all the liquids in the engine and...there's not much else you can do =/

 

Recently checked highway mileage on an 03, 4cyl and it got 34 MPG driving at a pretty steady 70 MPH. Car has 110k miles. Seasonal fuel changes/% of Ethanol and MTBE does play a factor on lessening mileage. You hit on all the items that need to be kept in check, might also make sure the correct oil viscosity is used, and as I'm sure you know, as steady a speed on the highway as possible.

Extra octane should only be used if needed, and improved mileage should not pan out by its use. Not that I believe in "cures in a bottle', but adding a bottle of good quality fuel additive (Techron, Regane, etc) never seems to hurt, and may have some benefit to clean/keep things clean that benefit from cleanliness. I bought an '07 Camry with a 4 banger 2 weeks ago. IMO, the gas mileage sucks! Had I known, I would have bought a V6! I also have a '06 Camry with a V6 and it gets better mileage! I struggled with purchasing an I4 and only convinced myself to do so because it did have enough power and I figured the fuel savings would be good.

First off, if you have an XLE and you're going by the dash readout, be aware that I and others find them to be reading about 10% high. My readout said 22 MPG, actual was 20 MPG. The best that I have seen so far was 28.2 on a 250 mile all highway trip, you know, the kind of trip they claim 32 MPG for. That 28.2 was acccording to the dash readout, it was probably more like 25 MPG.

I have a new air cleaner, my tires are correct, I have 93K, and irridium plugs that claim to be good until 120K. I bought this car for work on a company budget, I foolishly used the factory claimed mileage of 23-32 in my calculations, I'll probably end up losing money because of it. My Tacoma meets claimed mileage even at 160K, I assumed this car would do the same.

Don't get me wrong, it's a great car, just hugely dissapointed in the mileage.

 

2010 LE: Strictly town driving I get a low of 26.?, strictly long distance highway (Interstate @ 65-70MPH), I was topping 32-33. Combination I average 28-30.

highway driving i can get 25-26 mpg

09 camry with 38k at 95% city gets an average of 19-21 mpg since day 1 :facepalm:

 

2011 L4 SE. Drove from Minneapolis to Milwaukee for Christmas with the trunk completely LOADED. 2 adults, two older teens and an 80 lb Springer Spaniel in the cabin....
3/4 of the trip is on interstate highways... travel speed 70-75. 1/4 of the trip on 2 lane subsidiary highways...travel speeds 55-65...
380 miles, 25-26 mpg. Not complaining due to the load we were carrying.

Without the load, I'd have liked to seen 30-35 mpg. I am skeptical that I will ever see this.

 

'00 & '02

My '00 4 cyl, 221,000 miles, gets 34-36 on relatively flat terrain, ie, Ohio at 70. I use Mobil One & Michelin-X tires; both seem to help when began using; old mileage was right at 32. The '02, with a full load (two people) & a car load of luggage, etc) gets a steady 32 at 70, +/- c couple mph, Mobil 1, 5W-30, Michelin Primacy MV-4, 35 psi, 149,000. Not certain of mixed or in town, but I think the 02 is better there than the 00. Very satisfied with both.

 

2008 4 cyl with 30k, gets 33-34 mpg with mostly freeway miles (measured by each tank full), winter fuel, drops to upper 20's with extensive city driving, but as high as 35-36 with long, flat freeway trips.

 

I get about 23-24mpg with 70city/30hwy.

 

2005, I4, get 30 mpg on mix hwy driving, mostly southern CA in heavy traffic. If it is wide open fwy and I don't push over 80 mph, then I get 32-34 mpg. The car has 75K miles on it and original spark plugs-regular maintenance.

 

2011 Camry LE 4 cyl. averaging 25 mpg city/hwy on Oahu, Hawaii. No real long hwy. drives here but being in business-to-business sales, I'm on the go more than the usual driver.

 

According to the app on my phone, out of 21 fill ups, worst was 26.7, best was 31.3 and avg is 29.3. Usually around 420-450 miles per fill up. 2011 i4 SE

21 fill ups, 178 days and 8510 miles... looks like I should have moved closer to work.

171K km (106 K miles)

21.5 mpg; 90% city driving

 

2011 Camry SE 4 cylinder I only get 395 miles to a tank. 80% highway 20% city.

 

2008 camry LE I4, mostly city driving like 80% and 20% freeway. i get about 18 miles a gallon or so right now cause of winter. but when i hit the free way my mileage jumps up. im at 30k miles or so, heavy city driving. i forgot how mileage is in the warmer seasons but i know its more cause of how long the tank lasts me

 

2003 Camry LE, 2AZ-FE, last fill up I did the math and got 23 mpg all city driving

Wife has a 2011 4cyl XLE. It only has 2700 mile on it. On a recent trip I was able to get the dash reading up to 37mpg. All highway. City (very short trips 10 miles round-trip per day) it has consistently been 25-26mpg.

 

Worst: 19 mpg in winter, a lot of idling.
Best: 37 mpg driving 100% highway for 7 hours.
Average now that she's broken in: 28 mpg

2011 SE, 6 speed manual, 8800 miles.

 

I have a 2005 Camry LE 4 cyl with almost 80k miles. Over the past 3 months my mileage has ranged from a high of 35.2 mpg on one tank, down to a low of 22.4 on one tank. Overall average is 27.5.

 

Did some highway driving on 2011 LE and got 31.08mpg. 184.5 miles using 5.95 gallons. Scanguage2 read average 38-40 mpg.

 

Are you adjusting the ScanGauge after fillup?

 

I have a 2008 SE 4cyl that we purchased new. I have changed my own oil up until recently and are still on the original tires. Also, I had the dreaded water pump failure.

With that being said, I do about 50/50 and get 25-26 mpg.

 

2002 XLE, 188K headbolts at 142K still get 26 / 32 better with AC off

 

2009 Camry XLE and I average 19-22. I drive like a normal person
